Revolution to host New York Red Bulls at Harvard in U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Following Tuesday night’s 5-1 victory over the Rochester Rhinos of the USL PRO League in the third round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the New England Revolution will now host the New York Red Bulls of MLS in the fourth round of the 100-year-old tournament.

The fourth-round match will be played at Harvard University’s Soldier Field Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, June 12. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the match at the 2,500-seat soccer stadium are available here for $10.

The Revs advanced to the fourth round after Tuesday’s victory over affiliate club Rochester in Western New York. Kelyn Rowe had two goals and one assist to help push the Revs past the Rhinos.

New York advanced to the fourth round behind a 2-0 win over USL PDL club Reading United AC at Red Bull Arena.

The Revs are 12-10-4 all-time in the Open Cup. New England won the 2007 U.S. Open Cup title.

New England and New York have met twice previously in U.S. Open Cup action, with the Red Bulls winning both meetings: a 2-1 extra time victory on Aug. 27, 2001 (when the team was still the MetroStars) at Rutgers University, and a 3-0 win at Red Bull Arena on May 12, 2010.

Created in 1914, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer competition in the United States and is celebrating its centennial this year. The single-elimination tournament, which is similar to the prestigious English FA Cup, is open to all amateur and professional teams affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer).
