Jankauskas ready to make a return for Revs

New England received a boost on Tuesday as two potential contributors continued on the road to recovery ahead of Saturday's clash with Colorado.

Long-term injury victims Nico Colaluca (left knee sprain) and Edgaras Jankauskas (right calf strain) were upgraded to questionable in the injury report issued by the team on Tuesday as they hope to feature for the first time this season against the Rapids.

Both players have increased their work on the practice field in hopes of making a return sooner rather than later. Colaluca served as the neutral player in a series of 8-v-8 matches during training on Tuesday, while Jankauskas jumped straight into the fray as one of the full-fledged participants, according to a post on New England's official team blog. Both players also trained with the full squad again on Wednesday, according to a club spokesperson.

Once both players are fit enough to return to the squad, they would bolster a Revolution side in need of additional reinforcements. Colaluca could provide cover for right midfielder Sainey Nyassi, particularly in light of Zak Boggs being placed on the injury list this week (questionable – right knee and right ankle sprains).

More importantly, to a Revolution attack that has struggled at points this season without a true target presence up front, Jankauskas could lend a steady figure to lead the line and help the Revolution maintain possession with greater frequency.

Revolution coach Steve Nicol said he is eager for Jankauskas to overcome the nagging injury he suffered during the preseason and return to the field.

“The guy can play, so when you've got people sitting on the side and watching the game who you think and know can help you, it's frustrating,” Nicol told MLSsoccer.com before New England's 2-0 defeat at San Jose on Saturday. “We just want to get him back on the field.”
