Youth Update: Seacoast United & Montreal Impact

Dominic Machado - Youth

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution youth teams were in action last weekend as the Revs hosted Seacoast United on Saturday, Nov. 10, before meeting the Montreal Impact on Sunday, Nov. 11. Both games were played at Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass. Combined, the Under-18s and the Under-16s went 3-0-1 as the Under-14 squad was idle.

The Under-18s posted a pair of wins – 2-1 over Seacoast on Saturday and 1-0 over Montreal on Sunday – while the Under-16s went 1-0-1 with a 2-1 win over Seacoast and a 0-0 draw against Montreal.

Goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) earned two wins on the weekend, picking up the win with the U18s on Saturday, before posting the shutout with the U16s on Sunday. U18 midfielder Quenton Swift (Enfield, Conn.) factored in all three of the Under-18 squad’s three goals this weekend, scoring two goals (both game-winners) and assisting on the other.

Following the weekend’s results, the Under-18s are now 4-2-0 (12 pts.), while the Under-16s are 2-1-4 (10 pts.).

The Under-18s and Under-16s will next travel to face the New York Cosmos on Saturday, Nov. 17, while the Under-14s will face BW Gottschee the same day. All three games will be played at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Under-18s

On Saturday, the Under-18s earned a 2-1 victory against Seacoast United. Aaron Salm (Lincoln, Mass) scored his first-ever Academy goal as Swift found him with a precise pass and Salm coolly slotted the ball from 20 yards out. Swift scored the go-ahead goal for New England receiving a cross from Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass).

The U18s then earned a 1-0 win over the Montreal Impact on Sunday with the winning goal coming from Swift. Sady dribbled down the left wing and beat his defender to put a cross for Swift, who connected with a leaning header at the far post to score the winning goal. Goalkeeper Matt Mozynski earned the shutout in goal, despite taking a late under-cutting tackle that resulted in a red card for Montreal.

Under-16s

On Saturday, the U16s played Seacoast United in a 2-1 victory. Gabe Gisse (Worcester, Mass.) gave the Revs a 1-0 lead when held off two defenders to hit a powerful shot after receiving a through pass from Adam Norman (Natick, Mass.) just after the half. Gisse gave the Revs a 2-0 lead when he converted a penalty kick after he was fouled in the box. Nick Woodruff (Attleboro, Mass), Matt Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) and Nick Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) of the U-14 squad moved up to play with the U-16 team for the first time. Goalkeeper Bruce Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) made four saves in the win.

The U-16s then played the Montreal Impact to a scoreless draw on Sunday. Montreal had three strong chances in the first half, but Aviza turned them all away. In the second half, Aviza had to come up big again in the 44th when he made a fingertip save on a headed shot off a free kick. Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) had several chances in the second half, and then Steven Duncan (Barrington, R.I.) saw his free kick clip the post in the 67th minute.
