FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (May 1, 2023) – The New England Revolution will host USL Championship side Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32. The first meeting between the two teams is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Tuesday, May 2 at 10:00 a.m. ET on Ticketmaster.com and via Revolutionsoccer.net. All 16 matches in the Round of 32 will be available to watch; additional details will be announced by U.S. Soccer at a future date.

The New England Revolution advanced to the Round of 32 with a victory over USL Championship club Hartford Athletic, 2-1, in the third round on April 25 at Gillette Stadium. Justin Rennicks and Dave Romney provided the scoring for New England, while goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. made four saves in his first action of the 2023 campaign. The Revolution started five Homegrown Players in that match, a first in club history. New England is a three-time finalist and one-time winner of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, having lifted the trophy in 2007. New England also reached the final in 2001 and 2016.

New England holds a 10-3-3 record against USL clubs in U.S. Open Cup play, including a 7-2-1 mark at home. Pittsburgh advanced to the Round of 32 with a 2-0 win over NISA side Maryland Bobcats FC. Former Revolution SuperDraft pick Edward Kizza tallied the winner off the bench, with former Revolution II players Michael DeShields and Trevor Zwetsloot both starting the match.

Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament. The winner of the U.S. Open Cup receives a bid to the 2024 Concacaf Champions League, an annual tournament between the top clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Concacaf Champions League’s winner is awarded a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.
