Revolution sign defender Seth Sinovic as free agent

DL - Seth Sinovic

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have signed defender Seth Sinovic as a free agent. The 10-year MLS veteran, who was selected by the Revolution in the second round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft and played one season with the club, returns to New England following nine seasons with Sporting Kansas City.

“Seth brings a wealth of experience in MLS and a winning pedigree to our roster,” Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. “We are excited to welcome Seth back to New England and are eager to begin working with him in January.”

Sinovic's career highlights include an MLS Cup title with Sporting Kansas City in 2013, as well as three U.S. Open Cup championships in 2012, 2015, and 2017 – accruing a perfect 4-0 record in cup finals. The left back ranks eighth all-time in Sporting KC regular-season history in both games played (210) and games started (200), and was named the club's Defender of the Year in 2014. His career totals in MLS play include 230 appearances with 218 starts, one goal, and 12 assists across 19,318 minutes played. Sinovic has added 14 MLS Cup Playoff appearances – all starts – with two goals scored, as well as 16 appearances with one goal and two assists in Concacaf Champions League competition. He has registered at least 20 appearances in all but two of his 10 career MLS seasons.

Sinovic, 32, began his professional career with New England in 2010, when the club selected him with the 25th-overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. He recorded 1,580 minutes played across 20 appearances, including 18 starts, for the Revolution in his rookie campaign. Sinovic added four appearances in the 2010 North American SuperLiga tournament, before signing with Sporting Kansas City in May 2011.

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Sinovic played collegiately at Creighton University after graduating from Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Mo. The Leawood, Kan. product anchored the Bluejays to 37 shutouts over his four seasons and captained the side during his junior and senior campaigns. He earned two First-Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selections and NSCAA All-Midwest Region honors for his play. At the international level, Sinovic has received one call-up to the U.S. Men’s National Team, participating in January Camp in 2014.

With the signings of Sinovic and Kelyn Rowe – who overlapped in Kansas City last season – the Revolution cannot acquire another MLS free agent this offseason, as each club is only eligible to sign two out of contract players via free agency in a given year.
