Revolution Lineup Notes | Eastern Conference Semifinal at Orlando City SC

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will battle Orlando City SC this afternoon in the Eastern Conference Semifinal round of the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs. The match kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN Deportes, and is also available locally on the radio on 98.5 The Sports Hub and WBIX 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA. Here is a closer look at New England’s starting lineup for today’s match:

Starting XI (4-2-3-1): GK Matt Turner; D DeJuan Jones, D Andrew Farrell, D Henry Kessler, D Tajon Buchanan; M Matt Polster, M Scott Caldwell; LM Teal Bunbury, CAM Gustavo Bou, RM Carles Gil ©, F Adam Buksa
Lineup Notes:

  • Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena, the league’s all-time leader in playoff games coached (53 including today) and wins (34), deploys an unchanged Starting XI from Tuesday’s Round One match at Philadelphia, marking the first time since July 17 that New England’s lineup features no changes from the previous contest.
  • Designated Players Adam Buksa, Gustavo Bou and Carles Gil will all appear in the starting lineup for the fourth straight game. The trio has accounted for three of New England’s four goals this postseason, despite playing only 250 minutes together during the regular season.
  • Gil, wearing the captain’s armband this afternoon, became just the third Revolution player to register multiple assists in a playoff game in Tuesday’s win. The 2019 MLS Newcomer of the Year has one goal and two assists this postseason.
  • Buksa’s game-winning goal in Round One gives him four tallies in his last eight games, and seven goals overall in 2020. The Polish forward’s 11 headed shots on target across all competitions are the most in MLS.
  • Bou, who owns a goal and an assist in the playoffs, has scored in both of his appearances against Orlando with 12 shots and four shots on target in the series.
  • Teal Bunbury (15) surpasses Seth Sinovic (14) for the lead among active Revs in postseason appearances. Bunbury, who led all MLS players with six away goals during the regular season, owns three goals and one assist in 10 career appearances against Orlando.
  • Matt Turner, 2-1-0 in the postseason, logged his first playoff shutout with Tuesday’s 2-0 win in Round One at Philadelphia. Turner enters today’s contest with a 1-0-2 regular-season record against Orlando.
  • Tajon Buchanan will start at right back for the third time this postseason after playing primarily as a winger in 23 regular season appearances. Buchanan scored the Revs’ second goal in the Round One win at Philadelphia.
  • Andrew Farrell registers his 11th postseason appearance. The eighth-year defender is 41 minutes shy of eclipsing 1,000 minutes played in the MLS Cup Playoffs, all with New England.
  • Henry Kessler starts alongside Farrell in central defense, as the rookie continues to appear in all but one game in 2020, including all seven of the team’s clean sheets.
  • DeJuan Jones is poised to make his third straight playoff start at left back. Jones owns one assist in three MLS Cup Playoffs appearances, all full 90-minute shifts.
  • Scott Caldwell makes his 12th MLS Cup Playoffs appearance and ninth postseason start. The Braintree, Mass. native played all 90 minutes in the club’s Round One win over Philadelphia, completing 28 of 30 pass attempts.
  • Matt Polster logs his fourth career postseason appearance, all full 90-minute shifts. The midfielder will make his 10th consecutive appearance today.

Bench: GK Brad Knighton, D Michael Mancienne, D Brandon Bye, M Lee Nguyen, M Kelyn Rowe, M Tommy McNamara, M/F Kekuta Manneh, F Justin Rennicks

  • Lee Nguyen (999) will eclipse 1,000 minutes played in the MLS Cup Playoffs with an appearance in today’s match. Nguyen is one assist away from surpassing Jose Cancela and Steve Ralston for the most postseason assists in Revolution history.
  • Kelyn Rowe owns 10 postseason appearances, including seven starts. Rowe played 24 minutes off the bench in Tuesday’s match at Philadelphia.
  • Tommy McNamara has appeared in 11 of the last 12 games across all competitions. McNamara logged a 12-minute shift off the bench in Tuesday’s win.
