Revolution Headlines: March 7

Headline News - Houston backdrop

What a way to open the season! Diego Fagundez wasted no time in putting the Revs on the scoreboard yesterday. He fired an absolute rocket home, from long range I might add, in just the third minute. Take a look here.

It looked like the Revs were going to leave Houston pointless, down by one in stoppage time. Instead Daigo Kobayashi played the hero and stunned Houston with a header into the net off a Fagundez pass.

The last two years have seen the Revs open the season with a loss on the road. Clearly, things are looking up for the 2016 Revolution squad. Jay Heaps credits newcomers for allowing the offense to produce. “We’ve added some real grit to our group with Je-Vaugn Watson and Gershon Koffie,” Heaps said, “and it allows guys like Diego and Scottie and Lee to go in and change the game.”

Sunday may have been the best start the Revs have seen in a few years, but that doesn’t mean it was their best soccer, “Unfortunately, we weren’t at our best, and at times I thought Houston did a good job of punishing us,” Heaps said. “In the end, I liked our belief-we fought to the last whistle and got a point.”

Make sure to check out all the highlights from yesterday’s game. The Revs have their home opener Saturday against Eastern Conference rival DC. I think we all remember what happened the last time we saw DC … so this should be GOOD.
