Revolution Academy Update: September 5, 2018

Academy Teams opening Weekend

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ā€“ The New England Revolution Academy returned to action this weekend as the Under-19s, Under-17s, and Under-15s all opened their USSDA fall seasons on Saturday, Sept. 1. All three teams hosted and defeated Empire United at Gillette Stadium. 


All five Academy teams will be in action next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9. The U-14 and U-13 teams will travel to Portland, Conn. to face Oakwood Soccer Club in their first tests of the season, while the U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s will travel to Washington, D.C. to face D.C. United.

WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • All three teams (U-19, U-17, and U-15) came out victorious on Saturday afternoon at Gillette Stadium with just one combined goal allowed in all three matches. Watch all the top plays from Week 1 HERE.
  • Midfielder Damien Rivera '02 (Cranston, R.I.) registered a brace in his first appearance of the season for the U-17s, scoring goals in the 17th and 50th minutes of the 4-0 victory. Academy newcomer Francesco Pagano ā€™03 (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored the gameā€™s final goal to seal the victory.
  • Goalkeeper Eliot Jones ā€™03 (New Britain, Conn.) played 90 minutes in net for the Under-17s and recorded his first shutout of the 2018-19 campaign.
  • Forward Gustavo Cassemiro ā€™00 (Framingham, Mass.) and midfielder Elio Firmino ā€™01 (Somerville, Mass.) each tallied a goal in the U-19sā€™ 2-0 victory over Empire United on Sept. 1. Goalkeeper Austin Causey ā€™01 (Groton, Mass.) registered a shutout in the victory.
  • Three different players made the score sheet for the U-15s. Midfielder T.J. Liquori ā€™05 (Westfield, Mass.) opened the Revsā€™ scoring with a 55th-minute strike, before Rainer Chai ā€™04 (Boxborough, Mass.) and Dylan Henao ā€™04 (Saugus, Mass.) scored goals in the 62nd and 66th minutes, respectively, to lead New England to a 3-1 victory.
