FOXBOROUGH, MASS. – The New England Revolution (10-12-5; 35 pts.) defeated the Montreal Impact (10-11-6; 36 pts.), 1-0, before a crowd of 20,080 at Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening. Midfielder Lee Nguyen scored the game's lone goal in the 68th minute when he tucked a right-footed shot inside of the near post. With tonight's result, New England extends its home winning streak to five games and home shutout streak to four games.
Nguyen's goal was his ninth of the season and the 49th of his career, which brings him within one tally of becoming the first player in Revolution history to register 50 goals. With one more goal and two more assists, Nguyen will become the first member of the Revs' 50/50 club. Forward Teal Bunbury, who made his 75th career start with New England tonight, picked up his first assist of the season on the goal.
Goalkeeper Cody Cropper became the third different goalkeeper in club history to record four consecutive home shutouts, joining Matt Reis and Bobby Shuttleworth. Reis holds the club record with five consecutive home shutouts, which he recorded between April 30 and May 28, 2005. During this four-game home shutout streak, New England has outscored its opponents 8-0.
New England returns to action this Wednesday, Sept. 13, when it will travel to play expansion side Atlanta United FC for the first time at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast locally on CSN New England, where Brad Feldman and Paul Mariner will be on the call. Revolution Claim Fourth Straight Home Shutout with 1-0 Win vs. Montreal Impact
- The Revolution defeated the Montreal Impact, 1-0, on Saturday night to bring the club’s record to 10-12-5 (35 pts.) through the first 27 matches of the season.
- The win marks New England's fourth straight home shutout, matching the second longest streak in club history. The Revs last kept four straight clean sheets at home from March 22 – May 11, 2014.
- New England's all-time record against Montreal improves to 6-7-2, including a 3-3-1 mark at Gillette Stadium.
Revs Reach Double-Digit Home Wins in 2017
- New England now has 10 wins at home this season, including five consecutive victories at Gillette Stadium dating back to July 22. The club's home record moves to 10-2-2 on the year.
- The Revolution have now earned 10-or-more wins at home in five different seasons, the last time coming in 2014 en route to an MLS Cup appearance.
- With one more win in the team's final three home matches of the regular season, New England would equal the club record of 11 home victories, set in 2014 and 1997.
Nguyen Scores Game-Winning Goal, Approaches 50/50 Club
- Midfielder Lee Nguyen provided the lone goal of the contest in the 68th minute of action. The Revolution midfielder has recorded nine goals and 14 assists in 25 matches this season.
- Nguyen is now one goal and two assists shy of becoming the first member of the Revolution's 50/50 club for his MLS career. He would become the 19th player ever to record 50 goals and 50 assists in MLS, and only the eighth do so with one club.
- Forward Teal Bunbury registered his first assist of the season on the goal. Bunbury has now recorded a goal or an assist in four of the Revs' last five matches dating back to Aug. 12 vs. Vancouver.
Cropper Keeps Fourth Straight Home Shutout
- Goalkeeper Cody Cropper recorded two saves en route to his fourth consecutive home shutout and his eighth of the season.
- Cropper is the third different goalkeeper in club history to record four straight clean sheets at home. Matt Reis currently holds the Revolution record for five consecutive home shutouts (April 9-May 28, 2005), while Bobby Shuttleworth twice accomplished the feat (May 25-July 6, 2013 and June 2-July 6, 2014).
- Cropper's nine career MLS shutouts now rank fourth in Revolution history, as he moves ahead of Walter Zenga (eight). With his next clean sheet, Cropper will tie Adin Brown (10) for third on the club's all-time list.
Pair of Revs Reach Games-Started Milestones
- Forward Teal Bunbury and midfielder Gershon Koffie each achieved personal milestones in starting tonight's contest.
- Bunbury made his 75th career start as a Revolution player. In his four seasons with New England, Bunbury has recorded 16 goals and 14 assists in 109 appearances.
- Koffie started his 150th career MLS match. In his two seasons with the Revs, Koffie has notched four assists in 38 games played.
Revolution Make One Change to Starting XI
- Revolution Head Coach Jay Heaps made one change to the club’s starting lineup from its most recent MLS match on Sept. 2 vs. Orlando City SC, as defender Antonio Delamea replaced defender Andrew Farrell.
- Delamea missed the club's previous match on Sept. 2 while on international duty with Slovenia for its pair of World Cup Qualifying matches.
