CURRENT FORM

New England Revolution
2nd in Eastern Conference (14-9-4, 46 pts.)
Last Result | 3-0 loss at Real Salt Lake

The Revs had a three-game win streak snapped at America First Field in a 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake last time out. While New England were missing some key players due to injury and international duty in Utah, they will be closer to full capacity this weekend as players return from international competition. Despite the loss, the Revs are still sitting second in the Eastern Conference standings as they prepare to host the Sounders.

Back at Gillette Stadium, New England kick off a three-game week on Saturday with only seven games remaining in the regular season. At home, the Revolution have found nine of their 14 wins this season and will look to return to winning ways as the postseason nears. As hosts, New England own a 4-1-2 all-time record against the Sounders. While every result is important, every opportunity for points becomes even more crucial this late in the regular season.

Seattle Sounders FC
7th in Western Conference (10-9-8, 38 pts.)
Last Result | 2-1 win vs. Sporting Kansas City

In their 17-year history with New England, Seattle have only visited Gillette Stadium seven times, claiming just a single win in Foxborough back in 2011. As the Sounders head East, they own a 3-5-5 record away from Lumen Field and are on the road for the first time in three games.

After going 13 games winless from May to September, Seattle have rediscovered their form and are now eight games unbeaten (3-0-5). Their most recent result over Sporting Kansas City has put them on a three-game win streak as they make a sprint toward postseason action. Much of Seattle’s recent success has come from their strong defensive performances. With only 35 goals conceded through 27 games, they boast the fourth-best defensive record in the West.

KEY PLAYERS

Revolution winger Luca Langoni
After battling injuries for the past few months, Luca Langoni made his first start since May against Real Salt Lake. While he has logged minutes in six of the last nine games, his 58 minutes of play at RSL are the most he’s had since his return. As Langoni continues to get back to match fitness and while Jack Harrison remains unavailable due to injury, Langoni’s impact is expected to grow.

Despite appearing in just 18 of New England’s 27 games this season, Langoni remains one of the Revolution’s top goal contributors with three goals and six assists. Saturday could mark Langoni’s first appearance at Gillette Stadium since July. Continuing to reintegrate with the squad on the pitch, the Argentine will be a key player for New England if he is able to rediscover his early-season form.

Sounders striker Dejan Joveljić
The Sounders have struggled on the attack this season, finding just 35 goals so far – ranking as the third-lowest scoring team in the West and one of the lowest in the league. In need of attacking fire, the Sounders acquired Joveljić from Sporting Kansas City in late August, and he has since made an immediate impact. Notably, the Serbian striker netted a brace in his first appearance in Rave Green.

Last season, Joveljić scored 18 goals for SKC, adding to his 63 total MLS goals. Prior to arriving in Seattle, he had logged eight goals and three assists for Kansas City this campaign. In his four games as a Sounder, he has scored three goals, including one in his last outing against the Colorado Rapids.

HEAR FROM THE TEAM

Head coach Marko Mitrović on Saturday’s match against Seattle:
“Seattle Sounders is probably one of those teams in the league that nobody likes to play. They are a team that, somehow, over the last years, always has that end-of-the-season form where they kind of find their feet, start getting great results, and get into great form before the end of the season. I think they are a team that really accepts circumstances on the field. Whether they are with the ball or without the ball, or whatever is happening on the field, I think the team has good behavior and a lot of experience. And obviously, with experience comes quality and how to handle situations. I'm really happy and excited to see how we're going to face that challenge on Saturday.”

Assistant coach Michael Morris on the team’s success on the defensive end this season:
“I think a lot of it has to do with, first and foremost, the commitment of the guys and their willingness to defend individually and within small groups. Each opponent will present unique challenges but also opportunities for us to defend against. So, I think again, I'm always going to give the most credit toward the player and their individual commitment, and then their overall togetherness and just desire to defend.”

Midfielder Matt Polster on how he would describe the team’s identity:
“When you look at the group, I think we’re pretty gritty. Gritty is a good word for us right now. If you take out the RSL game, I think, like you said, we don’t give up a ton of goals. I think we’re willing to put our bodies on the line for the team and when you also look at our group I think we have a great identity of how we want to play and build from the back. And then also, how to score goals.”
