Postgame Quotes: Revolution 2, Impact 2

Kelyn Rowe vs. Montreal Impact

FRANK KLOPAS – COACH

On Marco Di Vaio’s performance tonight…
I told him we wanted to sign him for three more years. It was great to see him tonight. We talked about the last two games and finishing strong and getting a win for Marco. It was great seeing him play tonight; it reminded me of Marco Di Vaio 20 years ago.

On Marco Di Vaio’s goal…
You come to a lot of training sessions so we do a lot of pattern play and I think depending on the teams we play and the way we look to attack different teams. That’s where we see the player’s meshing better together. We create continuity and in a game like this tonight we had very good movement and the ability to play the ball quick and early. With a guy like Marco, when you give him an opportunity like that he’s not going to miss and I urge all of our fans to come to the last game to say farewell to a great human being and a great player.

Matteo said that “with the way we are playing I wish the season started today,” do you agree?…
We can`t go back in time, but we can learn from this and get better for next season. We’re a different team at the moment then we were at the beginning and seeing the score tonight with a team that’s 25 points in front of us makes us scratch our heads on what could have been if we started the season on this foot. Definitely the continuity and the changes that we’ve made have helped our team and from now on we will move forward.

CALUM MALLACE - MIDFIELD

On the last goal…
I played that ball and as soon as I played it and I saw the offside flag stay down, I knew he was going to put it away, it was another classic Di Vaio finish, which was just world class.

On Marco Di Vaio retiring after playing so well…
He’s an inspiration to all of us. Everyone wants to play for as long as possible and for him to still be able to do it at his age and still be a dangerous player is inspiring to all of us.

MARCO DI VAIO – FORWARD

On his performance tonight…
I am happy with my performance not only for myself but for the team also. We had some good opportunities in the first half and we shut down a lot of their games. I gave it my all every time I went up on the field today, so I’m happy.

On him being happier during games and practices lately…
It’s half and half because there’s been a lot of emotions lately with me leaving, but I am very happy and I want to show that I am giving everything I can to this club.

JAY HEAPS - COACH
On having the playoff spot locked up…
It’s a goal that got us our position guaranteed in the playoffs, but now we want to concentrate on getting more points to guaranty a good spot in the playoffs.

Thought’s on the performance today..
You have to credit Montreal tonight, I thought they were really good from the beginning. The two goals they scored were class. Marco Di Vaio’s two touches on the ball were world class. I think we could have done better maybe limited in some areas, but when the final play got to him I don’t think there’s a better player that can finish. Marco Di Vaio is just class.

Was it fitting that it was Lee’s goal that sent you to the playoffs…
Lee has been awesome and I thought tonight he played well again. It’s a battle, you go down twice on the road, especially here in Montreal, which is one of the hardest venues to play in. Montreal was really good tonight.

A.J. SOARES - DEFENDER

On securing a spot in the playoffs…
It’s a little different than last year since we qualified a bit earlier, which we are thrilled about. It’s not over though, we have to get into the playoffs and do something about it now. We see it as there’s still a lot of work to do and we want to win these last two games, to have some momentum going forward.

On the game tonight…
We knew that they were going to come out with nothing to lose and they did that and caused us some trouble. In all I still think we are the better team, but we have to clean up some details because it’s a game we should have won.

JERMAINE JONES - MIDFIELD

On qualifying for the playoffs…
We are happy now that the game is finished, because it wasn’t an easy game and to be already second place in the playoffs is a good thing for us.

On their performance today...
It’s hard conceding some goals, but what’s even more important is how we always come back. Montreal showed us tonight that they are a good team especially with Marco Di Vaio, but we knew we had to fight to at least get a tie to secure out position in the playoffs.
