SMITHFIELD, R.I. (August 30, 2026) – New England Revolution II (11-8-6, 42 pts.) fell to Huntsville City FC (10-9-6; 38 pts.), 4-1, in their final home contest of the regular season on Sunday night at Bryant University's Beirne Stadium. Sunday's match featured two debutants in forward Marcos Zambrano, who scored New England's lone goal, and defender Tylon Smith. Smith, a 21-year-old from South Africa, collected his first minutes in a New England uniform since joining the first team roster earlier this month.
New England started tonight's match on the offensive, sprinting its way to an early lead. Zambrano, who suited up for his first appearance with Revolution II, picked up a pass from forward Myles Morgan in the sixth minute and converted to give New England the 1-0 advantage. Morgan's assist on the early tally marked the 21-year-old's second helper of the season, to go with his team-best 13 goals. The visitors responded in the 29th minute, when Huntsville's Zidane Yanez netted the equalizer with a header to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1.
Huntsville maintained its momentum after the break, netting a pair of goals within the first 20 minutes of the second half to take command of the match. Jordan Knight gave Huntsville the lead in the 48th minute, scoring on Charles Brunet's assist with a right-footed strike from long distance. Knight then connected with Yanez in the 66th minute, providing the assist on the latter's second goal of the night to give Huntsville a 3-1 edge.
Facing a two-goal deficit, New England attempted to ramp up its pressure on the attacking end with Shuma Sasaki, Matthew Jean Baptiste, and Jayden Da all entering as substitutes. However, Huntsville put the match out of reach on Brunet's tally in the 88th minute to close the scoring. Jean Baptiste, a 16-year-old Revolution Academy player, collected his 10th appearance of the season. Da, a Boston-born striker, logged his first minutes after missing eight matches due to injury.
Smith, who joined New England on loan from Queens Park Rangers on August 13, posted a 45-minute performance in tonight's match. Zambrano registered a full 90-minute outing and finished the contest with two key passes. Morgan and Sasaki paced Revolution II's attacking efforts with three shot attempts each, while midfielder Javan Mussenden recorded three key passes. Midfielder Logan Azar, a 2026 MLS NEXT All-Star, also played all 90 minutes.
Aiming to bounce back into the win column, Revolution II closes out its 2026 regular season campaign with a three-match road swing, beginning with a visit to Carolina Core FC on Friday, Sept. 4. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET and will stream on MLSNEXTPro.com and the OneFootball platform.
