FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II has signed goalkeeper Yannik Oettl to a USL League One contract pending league and federation approval and the receipt of his P-1 Visa.
Oettl, 24, joins Revolution II following a four-year career at the University of Central Florida, where he was voted the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year for the past three seasons. In four years, Oettl played 58 games, including every match during his sophomore and junior seasons from 2018-19, and led the Knights to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. In each of the last two seasons, Oettl was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team following a selection to the All-East Region First Team as a sophomore in 2018.
As a senior during the NCAA’s 2021 spring season, the Munich, Germany native made 12 appearances and led UCF to a 9-4-1 record, an AAC Tournament title, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Oettl also earned AAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors as a senior, graduating a semester early with a degree in Business Management.
The six-foot-two goalkeeper owns 15 professional appearances across Germany’s lower divisions, including 12 appearances for FC Augsburg II. Oettl also recently played part of the 2021 USL League Two season with the Ocean City Nor’Easters. He developed in the SpVgg Unterhaching Academy in his native Bavaria, also spending part of his youth days with SV Wangen.
New England continues its 2021 USL League One regular season on Friday, July 23 at Gillette Stadium against Toronto FC with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+. Revolution II’s second season features a 28-game slate running through October and will culminate in a six-team playoff in November.
