Two weeks into the 2022 MLS season, reigning league MVP Carles Gil has picked up right where he left off.
After earning a spot on the MLS Team of the Week bench with his Week 1 performance in Portland - assisting Brandon Bye's opening goal and racking up six key passes - Gil was named to the full squad in Week 2, having scored the game-winning goal from the penalty spot in the Revolution's 1-0 win over FC Dallas. Gil also earned the penalty himself, fouled by FCD midfielder Paxton Pomykal just inside the box.
Gil celebrated the goal by announcing that he and wife Maria are expecting their first child, making Saturday's penalty one of the most memorable goals of Gil's career.
Gil, who set an MLS record with 130 chances created last season, has seven key passes through the first two weeks of 2022, tied for sixth-most leaguewide.
