Henry Kessler had a dream performance for a center back this past weekend, scoring the game-winning goal and doing his part to keep a clean sheet in the New England Revolution's 1-0 road win over Charlotte FC to begin the 2023 campaign. Those efforts placed Kessler on the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Matchday presented by Audi, while young teammate Noel Buck earned a spot on the bench following a standout showing in central midfield.

Kessler scored the game winner in dramatic fashion, bagging his fourth career goal in the 89th minute to hand the Revolution all three points. Brandon Bye's right-wing cross was blocked, but the ball fell kindly to Kessler, who had stayed forward following a corner kick and calmly finished inside the near post. The fourth-year center back also finished the game completing 21 of his 22 passes, winning 100 percent of his tackles, and claiming a team-high eight clearances.

Buck also played a role in the match-winning goal, as it was the 17-year-old Homegrown who cut out Karol Świderski's attempted clearance to start the Revolution's attacking sequence. In just his fourth MLS start, Buck had a team-high four interceptions, team-high three tackles, and created one chance, Kessler's header that struck the woodwork earlier in the second half.

Kessler, Buck, and the Revs will return to Foxborough on Saturday night for their 2023 home opener, hosting Houston Dynamo FC at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA.
