Joseph earns 2011 All-Star nod

Shalrie Joseph vs. Kansas City Wizards

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Shalrie Joseph is among the 22 players named to the game day roster - selected by MLS All-Star head coach Hans Backe - that will compete against Manchester United in the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 27 at Red Bull Arena (8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, Galavision, and TSN).

Backe announced his selections this afternoon. Those picks will join the previously-announced 11 “First XI” selections and two of MLS Commissioner Don Garber’s picks to create the 22-man game roster for the match against the defending English Premier League champion.

The Revs’ captain leads the club in goals (five) and shots on goal (16) in 17 appearances this year – all starts. A nine-year veteran, all with the Revs, in the July 4 match at Real Salt Lake, Joseph became just the second Revolution player to reach the 20,000-minutes played mark with the club – entering this week with 20,036 career minutes played.

This is Joseph’s eighth all-star selection, having earned all-star honors in each of the last eight years.
