Academy Update: U-19s and U-17s wrap up fall season at Winter Showcase

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy continued its fall season this weekend as two teams returned to action in Florida between Thursday, Nov. 29 and Monday, Dec. 3. The Under-19 and Under-17 teams traveled to Lakewood Ranch, Fla. to participate in the DA Winter Showcase with other Academy teams from across the nation at the Premier Sports Campus.


Last weekend’s action concluded the fall portion of the 2018-19 Academy season. All teams will be back in action in March 2019.


WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Midfielder Nicolas Firmino (Somerville, Mass.—2001) scored his fifth goal of the season in the U-19s’ 2-0 win over San Diego Surf on Thursday, Nov. 29 in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Firmino’s goal comes just a week after he signed as the New England Revolution’s fifth Homegrown Player in club history. 
  • Forward Gustavo Cassemiro (Framingham, Mass.—2000) scored a goal and recorded an assist in the U-19s’ 2-0 win over San Diego Surf in the DA Winter Showcase. He finishes the fall season with three goals and three assists.
  • Midfielder Hikaru Fujiwara (Lexington, Mass—2003) scored his second goal of the fall campaign in the U-17s’ 5-4 loss against Strikers FC on Friday, Nov. 30.
  • Forward Andrew Serafino (East Longmeadow, Mass.—2003) scored two goals and recorded an assist in the U-17s’ 5-4 loss against Strikers FC. Serafino now has eight strikes and two assists on the season.
  • Midfielder Colby Quinones (Bedford, N.H.—2003) recorded two assists in the U-17s’ 5-4 loss against Strikers FC. Quinones has tallied a total of five assists this season. 
  • Forward Felipe Riveira (Malden, Mass.—2003) scored a late goal to salvage a 1-1 draw against the Seattle Sounders on Monday, Dec. 3. The strike was his third of the fall season.
  • Goalkeeper Eliot Jones (New Britain, Conn.—2003) recorded a shutout in the U-19s’ 2-0 victory over San Diego Surf on Nov. 29. Jones has split time between the U-19 and U-17 sides this season.
