Physical Therapist/Athletic Trainer (MLS)
Malafronte, a native of Abington, Massachusetts, spent the 2024 fall semester working at Harvard University as an athletic trainer and sports physical therapist. Prior to returning to Massachusetts, he spent three years with Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, serving as a clinical specialist physical therapist. From 2021 to 2024, he was the clinical lead for the physical therapy team at IMG Academy, where he also served as site coordinator and lead mentor for the Johns Hopkins Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program.
Before his tenure with Johns Hopkins and IMG, Malafronte spent a year as clinic director at an outpatient physical therapy practice in Tampa, Florida.
In 2019, he completed the Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program at Texas Health Sports Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas. During his time there, he worked closely with the sports medicine staff at Texas Christian University, providing long-term and post-operative rehabilitation services to Division I student-athletes.
Malafronte earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Boston University in 2017 and went on to receive his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Boston University in 2019. He is a board-certified specialist in sports physical therapy and is actively involved in the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy, where he serves on the Specialization Committee. He has previously published peer-reviewed research on knee joint loading after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and he has presented at both state and national conferences on a wide range of sports medicine and rehabilitation topics.
