FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution Academy midfielder Isaac Angking and defender Tyler Freitas have been selected to join the U.S. Under-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida for the 2016 Spring Semester. Angking and Freitas are two of 32 players that will live, train and study with the Under-17 National Team under the direction of head coach John Hackworth. The two Revolution Academy products are currently in Turkey as part of the U.S. U-17 team that will compete in the Aegean Cup 2016, which is their first international tournament of the year.
“This is a special opportunity for both Isaac and Tyler and a big step in their development,” Revolution Director of Youth Development Bryan Scales said. “They have both worked very hard to receive this invitation and we know that they will represent their families and the New England Revolution with the utmost professionalism as they begin preparations for the next Under-17 World Cup.”
Angking has been involved with U.S. Youth National Teams in the past and most recently spent time in Bradenton for a week-long U.S. Under-15 National Team camp in early November. He was also called in for a U.S. U-15 camp in Bradenton in December 2014 and a U.S. Under-14 National Team camp in Carson, California in August 2014.
The 15-year-old is currently in his third season with the Revolution Academy, scoring two goals and adding three assists in 13 games while playing up with the Under-18 squad during the 2015-16 season. The Providence, Rhode Island native debuted with the Revs at the start of the 2013-14 campaign and has made 70 appearances, tallying 17 goals and 17 assists, since joining the program. In August, the 15-year-old was selected for the Generation adidas ESP event in August, where he played and trained with other elite MLS Academy players as well as an All-Star team from Bayern Munich’s Academy.
Freitas, 15, also has prior experience with U.S. Soccer setup, earning a call up to the U.S. Youth National Team Futures Camp in May 2015.
In his debut campaign with the Revolution Academy during the 2014-15 season, Freitas appeared in 34 total matches with the Under-14 and Under-16 squads. He logged 26 starts, scoring three goals and adding one assist in more than 2,000 minutes of action. In the current 2015-16 Academy season, the North Attleborough, Massachusetts resident has played with the Revolution U-16 and U-18 teams, appearing in 13 games with the Under-16s, and three more with the Under-18s, tallying one assist with each squad.
