Academy Update: Fall season continues against D.C. United, Oakwood Soccer Club

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy continued its fall season this weekend as the Under-19s, Under-17s, and Under-15s all returned to action, while the Under-14s and Under-13s played their first matches of the 2018-19 campaign. The Under-19s, Under-17s, and Under-15s traveled to Washington, D.C. to face D.C. United on Sunday, Sept. 9, and the Under-14s and Under-13s traveled to Portland, Conn. to battle Oakwood Soccer Club on Saturday, Sept. 8.

All five Academy teams will be in action next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 15. The U-14 and U-13 teams will travel to Medway, Mass. to face FC Greater Boston Bolts in their second tests of the season, while the U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s will travel to Providence, R.I. to face the older groups of FC Greater Boston Bolts.

WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • The U-14s defeated Oakwood Soccer Club, 6-3, thanks to a pair of first-half braces from Tysenger Alcin05 (Everett, Mass.) and Alexander Parvu ’05 (Cumberland, R.I.), as well as tallies from Oscar Martinez ’05 (Revere, Mass.) and Joseph Buckley ’05 (Westwood, Mass.). Midfielder Jack Burkhardt ’05 (Sutton, Mass.)recorded two assists for the U-14s, while Brady Elmblad ’05 (Sharon, Mass.) made three saves in net in his first start of the season.
  • Forwards Benaiah Hanson ’06 (Loudon, N.H.), Jackson Akin ’06 (West Rutland, Vt.), and Olger Escobar ‘06 (Malden, Mass.) each recorded a brace in the U-13s’ 8-0 win over Oakwood Soccer Club on Saturday, Sept. 8 in Portland, Conn. Midfielder Ryan Viana ’06 (Framingham, Mass.) tallied two assists and scored a goal in the victory.
  • T.J. Liquori ’04 (Westfield, Mass.) scored the Revs’ lone goal in the U-15s’ 1-1 draw with D.C. United on Sunday, Sept. 9 for his second strike this season. Goalkeepers Matthew Tibbetts ’04 (Westborough, Mass.) and Sebastian Pliszka ’04 (Newington, Conn.) combined minutes to allow just one goal in the draw.
  • Goalkeeper Eliot Jones ’03 (New Britain, Conn.) received a call-up to the United States U-16 BNT’s training camp in Bradenton, Fla. The camp begins Sept. 12 and runs through Sept. 19. This is Jones’ seventh appearance with the United States Youth National Team.
  • Forward Gevork Diarbian ‘01 (Cranston, R.I.) scored his first goal of the season with a late strike in the U-19s’ matchup with D.C. United on Sunday, Sept. 9 in Washington, D.C.
