Academy Update: November 22, 2016

U18's | November 18, 2016

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy’s Under-18, Under-16, Under-14, and Under-13 teams were back in action this past weekend, with the U-18s and U-16s hosting the New York Red Bulls at East Providence High School, and the U-14s and U-13s travelling to Lyndhurst, N.J. to play Cedar Stars Academy – Bergen. The U-14s and U-13s played on Saturday, while the U-18s and U-16s played on Sunday


The four matches marked the conclusion of the fall portion of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy schedule. The Under-18s and Under-16s will be back in action for the USSDA Winter Showcase in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. from Dec. 1-5. The U-18s are set to play Real Salt Lake AZ (Dec. 1), Baltimore Armour (Dec. 2), and the Chicago Fire (Dec. 4). Meanwhile, the U-16s will play the Colorado Rapids (Dec. 2), the Dallas Texans (Dec. 3), and the Houston Dynamo (Dec. 5).


WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Midfielder Alex Shterenberg '01 (Westwood, Mass.) recorded his third goal of the season from distance, helping the U-18s to a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls. (WATCH HERE)
  • Forward Jonathan Ferreira '01 (Ashland, Mass.) registered his first assist of the season on a goal scored by Gustavo Cassemiro '01 (Framingham, Mass.) for the U-16s.
  • Forwards Michael Tsicoulias '02 (Newton, Mass.) and Damian Rivera '02 (Cranston, R.I.) each recorded a goal and an assist for the U-14s.
  • Forward Felipe Vieira'03 (Malden, Mass.) recorded a pair of goals, both assisted by midfielder Cole Dewhurst '03 (Lancaster, Mass.), for the U-13s. Forward Jeremy Rodriguez '03 (North Andover, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal, his first of the season, just seconds before the final whistle in the 3-2 victory.
  • Under-13 goalkeeper Eliot Jones '03 (New Britain, Conn.), defender Morris Matthews '03 (Cambridge, Mass.), and defender Zach Sardi-Santos '03 (Newton, Mass.) were unavailable for selection this past weekend due to being called in to the U.S. Boys’ Under-14 National Team.
