Revolution to face New York Cosmos in 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will face the New York Cosmos (NASL) in the Round of 16 of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at St. John’s University’s Belson Stadium on June 29, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced today. New England advanced to the Round of 16 by defeating the Carolina RailHawks on Wednesday night.


This will mark the first ever meeting between the Revolution and Cosmos. If New England defeats New York, then it will host the winner of the Round of 16 matchup between the Philadelphia Union and New York Red Bulls at Harvard University.


Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament.
