Revolution Academy Update: June 9, 2016

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s U-16 and U-14 teams advanced to the postseason following the conclusion of their 2015-16 regular seasons. The U-16s will play in the group stage of the Academy Playoffs, where they are competing in Group G along with Georgia United, LA Galaxy, and Sporting Kansas City. Group stage matches will take place from June 22-26 at Toyota Park in Frisco, Texas. Meanwhile, the U-14s will play in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Summer Showcase from June 20-23 at Toyota Park in Frisco, Texas.


The U-14,  U-16, and U-18 teams all concluded their regular seasons recently, as the U-18s and U-16s played their final matches against the Montreal Impact and Beachside SC over Memorial Day weekend, and the U-14s wrapped up the regular season with games against New York City FC on May 28 and BW Gottschee Academy on June 4.


The U18 game at Beachside SC marked the final Academy game for 2016 graduates who will look to continue playing at the collegiate level: Max Diamond (University of Virginia), Santi Cardona (Dean College), John Wilkins (Providence College), Ben Waithe (UMass Lowell), Bill Sinibaldi (UMass Lowell), Bryant Nardizzi (North Carolina State), Andrew Barrowman (UMass Amherst), and Aaron James (University of Virginia).


WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS

  • U-14 defender Pierre Spiegel (Amherst, Mass.) recorded his first goal with the Revolution Academy, scoring the game-winning goal vs. BW Gottschee Academy in stoppage time on June 4. Spiegel is currently with the U.S. U-16s for a camp taking place in San Ramon, Calif.
  • U-16 forward Tim Ennin (East Hartford, Conn.) scored three goals over his last two regular season games. Ennin recorded a brace for the U-16s vs. Montreal on May 28 and scored a goal in his first appearance with the U-18s vs. Beachside SC on May 30. Ennin concluded the regular season with seven total goals.
  • U-16 midfielder Alex Shterenberg (Westwood, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season in the U-16s’ 5-1 win over Montreal on May 28.
  • U-18 goalkeeper Bill Sinibaldi (Plaistow, N.H.) kept a clean sheet in the U-18s 3-0 victory over Beachside SC on May 30.
  • U-18 defender Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) and forward Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) were unavailable for selection due to U.S. U-18 National Team call-ups.
