Revolution fall 4-2 to LA Galaxy

Diego Fagundez vs. LA Galaxy

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution (1-3-7; 10 points) fell to the LA Galaxy (6-1-3; 21 points), 4-2, at the StubHub Center on Sunday afternoon. Juan Agudelo scored for the second consecutive match, Kelyn Rowe recorded his second goal of the season, and captain Jose Goncalves made his 100th appearance for the club in the loss. Rowe’s 24th career goal moves him into a tie with Wolde Harris for ninth place on the club’s all-time goal scoring list. Goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth also submitted a season-high five saves, but the Revolution – forced to play with 10 men for the final 13 minutes due to a rib injury to Goncalves – couldn’t overcome an early three-goal deficit.

GAME NOTES
Revolution remain in good standing on the Eastern Conference table

With today’s loss, the Revolution are now 1-3-7 on the season. With the result, the club stands in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, but remains level with the New York Red Bulls, D.C. United, and New York City FC with 10 points.

Agudelo, Woodberry highlight Revolution’s lineup changes

The New England Revolution made a pair of changes to its starting lineup from April 30 vs. Orlando City SC. Revolution defender London Woodberry replaced Donnie Smith at left back, while Juan Agudelo replaced Femi Hollinger-Janzen at striker.

Today’s match marked Woodberry’s first start at left back and Agudelo’s first start at striker. Woodberry made his first start since April 17 at Orlando, while Agudelo made his return to the starting XI for the first time since April 1 vs. New York.

Teal Bunbury returned to New England’s bench after missing the club’s last two matches with a hamstring injury.

Juan Agudelo lifts Revolution attack, scores for second consecutive match

Revolution forward Juan Agudelo tallied a goal for the second consecutive match, cutting the deficit to one goal with an acrobatic volley in the 70th minute. Agudelo also scored against Orlando City SC last week on his first touch after entering the match as a substitute.

Agudelo also scored in consecutive matches last year, getting on the score sheet vs. Toronto on May 16, 2015, and at Sporting Kansas City on May 20, 2015.

Agudelo also hit the cross bar in the 83rd minute, marking the second consecutive match he found the woodwork after the 80th minute.

Kelyn Rowe moves into ninth place on Revolution’s all-time scoring list

Revolution midfielder Kelyn Rowe opened the scoring for New England in the second half, netting his second goal of the season with a left-footed strike from outside of the box.

Rowe, now with 24 career goals, moves into a tie with Wolde Harris for ninth place on the club’s all-time goal scoring list.

The midfielder also paced the team in shots with five and played the entire second half at left back – his first appearance at the position this season.

Femi records first point of his MLS career, sparks Revolution’s comeback effort

Femi Hollinger-Janzen, New England’s third round selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, registered his first career point by assisting Juan Agudelo’s 70th minute goal.

Femi, making his seventh appearance of the season and sixth as a substitute, logged three chances created in 30 minutes after replacing Lee Nguyen as a substitute in the 60th minute.

Jose Goncalves makes 100th career appearance for the Revolution

Revolution defender and captain Jose Goncalves made his 100th appearance for the club in today’s match. Goncalves, the 2013 MLS defender of the Year, recorded two tackles, including a crucial clearance to keep the score knotted at 0-0 in the 12th minute.

Goncalves’ landmark appearance was cut short due to a rib injury in the 77th minute. His departure forced the Revolution to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match.

Koffie off to a hot start in debut season with Revolution

Gershon Koffie recorded his third assist of the season in today’s match, tying his previous season-high.

The former Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder registered three helpers in 26 appearances in 2014.

Teal Bunbury returns to action after missing Revs’ last two matches

Revolution forward Teal Bunbury made his first appearance since April 23, replacing London Woodberry as a substitute to open the second half. Bunbury missed the club’s last two matches with a hamstring injury.

Bunbury was active upon his return to the lineup, recording three shots (second most on the team), one shot on goal, and one chance created.

Revolution, Jay Heaps adjust on the fly

Midway through the first half, London Woodberry and Je-Vaughn Watson swapped roles along the Revolution’s back line. Woodberry shifted to right back – where he has made all three of his starts this season – while Watson shifted to left back.

Jay Heaps, hoping to provide a spark, went with a different look to open the second half. Teal Bunbury replaced London Woodberry as a substitute, pushing Kelyn Rowe to left back. This was Rowe’s first appearance at left back in 2016.

Lee Nguyen, Kelyn Rowe generate Revolution attack in the first half

New England’s attacking efforts in the first half funneled through Lee Nguyen, who recorded four chances created and a team-high 37 touches.

Revolution midfielder Kelyn Rowe was also involved early and often in the first half of today’s match, recording two shots on goal within the opening 25 minutes.
