Nguyen returns from USMNT adventure, ready for Friday night’s clash with RBNY

Lee Nguyen training

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Wind wreaked havoc on the New England Revolution’s training session on Thursday morning, so much so that Lee Nguyen and Diego Fagundez had trouble practicing free kicks because the ball kept blowing away. The pair eventually took turns holding for each other, like they were kicking field goals American football style.

Wind also wreaked havoc on my interview with Nguyen, who was back on the training field in Foxborough after spending the past week-and-a-half with the U.S. National Team. We talked briefly about his experience with the Nats and his return to the Revs; you just can’t hear any of it – it’s all wind.

But here’s the gist: Nguyen said his stint with the U.S. National Team was “great,” even though he didn’t feature in either of the World Cup qualifiers – a 2-0 loss in Guatemala and a 4-0 win over the same opponent in Columbus, Ohio. He said it’s always an honor to represent his country and the experience of training with the U.S. is valuable in and of itself.

Now he’s eager to get back into MLS action, and said he’s fully fit and ready to go ahead of Friday night’s meeting with the New York Red Bulls. Nguyen will likely go straight back into the Revolution’s starting lineup after missing last weekend’s 1-1 draw with New York City FC.

Friday night’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. and it will be televised nationally on UniMas. Information on how to find UniMas in your area is available HERE.
