Revolution drop final match in first leg of preseason to Vancouver, 3-2

Charlie Davies vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC - Preseason

TUCSON, Ariz. – The New England Revolution concluded the first leg of their 2016 preseason schedule, falling 3-2 this evening against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Charlie Davies and Jordan McCrary each recorded a goal for New England. Davies’ goal marked two goals in two preseason games for the Revs’ forward.

The Revolution opened the first half with a veteran lineup. After a scoreless half hour, Vancouver’s Masato Kudo put the Whitecaps on the board shortly after a Cristian Techera corner was flicked on by Marco Bustos, which Kudo chested into the net. The Revs came close to equalizing in the 41st minute when a cross from Chris Tierney was headed by Juan Agudelo, only to find the right post.  Moment after, though, Tierney’s cross from a set piece found Davies, who headed the ball to the back of the net to provide the equalizing goal.

Following halftime, both teams made significant lineup changes, including a Revolution lineup that featured a blend of veterans, drafted players and trialists. The Whitecaps regained the lead in the 53rd minute as Deybi Flores found the back of the net from distance. Recently signed Jordan McCrary equalized in the 66th minute, after making a long run with the ball and finishing on his own. Whitecaps’ Kekuta Manneh tallied in the 67th minute to give Vancouver the lead, and ultimately the victory.

New England will return to market Sunday morning and will begin training at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 10. The Revolution will return to Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 14 where they will participate in the 2016 Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson, Ariz.
