Revolution to host U.S. Open Cup fourth round game on June 17

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will begin their quest for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, June 17 when they begin play in the fourth round of the competition. The Revs will host the winner of next week’s third round game between the USL’s Charlotte Independence and the NASL’s Carolina RailHawks in a game that will be played at Soldiers Field on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. That game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. and ticket information will be released in the near future.

If the Revolution advance to the Fifth Round, that game will be played on either June 30 or July 1 while the tournament quarterfinals will be played July 21 or 22 and the semifinals will be played on August 11 or 12 with the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final to be played on either Sept. 29 or 30.

New England has a 15-12-4 record all-time in the Open Cup, reaching the Final in 2001 and 2007. The Revolution reached their first Final of any kind in 2001, falling 2-1 in extra time to the LA Galaxy, before defeating FC Dallas 3-2 in the 2007 Open Cup Final for the first championship in club history.

Last season, the Revs advanced through to the Quarterfinal stage of the Open Cup before being eliminated by the Philadelphia Union. New England entered the competition in the Fourth Round and earned a 3-2 road win over the Richmond Kickers before hosting affiliate side the Rochester Rhinos in the Fifth Round at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The Revolution defeated Rochester 2-1 to advance to the Quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by the Philadelphia Union, losing 2-0 at PPL Park.
