The Revs bagged their first two playoff goals of the season from set pieces on Saturday at Columbus. According to goalscorer Chris Tierney, set pieces were something the Revs focused on in training heading into the first leg of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series.

Scott Caldwell registered his first career MLS Playoff assist on Saturday, jump-starting a Revs counter-attack with a crisp pass out of the midfield to set up Charlie Davies’ second goal of the game. Caldwell, the Revs second-ever Homegrown player, has made a quiet but sturdy home in the Revs’ central midfield amongst the likes of Jermaine Jones and Lee Nguyen. Take a look at BostInno.com to hear what Caldwell had to say about playing for the club he cheered for while growing up in Braintree, Mass.

MLS MVP candidate Lee Nguyen continues to strengthen his case. After scoring 18 goals in the regular season, Nguyen added another in the 70th minute of the Revs’ 4-2 win in Columbus on Saturday. Head over to Sports Illustrated to see why Nguyen alone has been worth the price of admission to a New England Revolution match this season.

After their dominant performance on Saturday, the Revs imposed themselves as a dark horse to make a deep postseason run. Ryan Tolmich reckons the Revs were the team of the week. Also on Soccer by Ives, Dan Karell writes about how Charlie Davies turned on the style with a vintage performance to hand the Revs a precious two-goal advantage heading into the second leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
