FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution hits the road to take on Toronto FC at BMO Field this Saturday, May 3. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The Revs enter the match riding a modest three-game undefeated streak, going 2-0-1 in their last three matches.

Comcast SportsNet will televise the game while 98.5 The Sports Hub will have the call on the radio. Saturday’s match will be the first of three meetings this season between the Revs and Toronto FC, and the first of two played in Toronto.

New England (3-3-2, 11 pts.) earned a 2-0 win at Gillette Stadium last Saturday behind Teal Bunbury’s game-winning goal in stoppage time. Bunbury’s first goal as a member of the Revs gave the Revs their first win against Kansas City – his former team – since April 2011.

Toronto FC (3-3-0, 9 pts.) enters Saturday’s match against New England coming off a bye week and looking to snap a two-game losing skid.

Following this Saturday’s match against Toronto, the Revs return home on Sunday, May 11, to face U.S. National Team captain Clint Dempsey and Seattle Sounders FC at Gillette Stadium.

TEAM NOTES

First trip north of the border
The Revs head to Toronto this Saturday for the first of three meetings with the Reds this season … the teams split the 2013 regular-season series, with both clubs posting 1-1-1 records … the Revs lead the all-time series with a 5-4-7 record but are winless all-time at BMO Field (0-2-5) … in the teams’ last meeting at BMO Field on Aug. 30, 2013, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw … the clubs meet again at BMO Field on Aug. 30, 2014, before closing out the regular-season series at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 25.

Can May further April’s progress?
With five games on the schedule in May, the Revolution is hoping some of the progress it made in April carries through to the new month … the Revolution went 2-1-1 in April, posted two shutouts and an 0.75 goals against average … the team also recorded two multiple-goal games, including a pair of 2-0 home wins over Houston and Kansas City.

Fortress Foxborough…
The Revolution are treating Gillette Stadium like their own fortress  … in three games at Gillette Stadium this season, the Revs have yet to concede a goal and have posted a 2-0-1 record … the Revs’ .833 winning percentage (2-0-1) is the best in MLS, while the team’s home 0.00 goals against average is best in the league by one-quarter of a goal, in front of Kansas City’s 0.25 home GAA.… with last Saturday’s win over Kansas City, the Revs also extended its home unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2), dating back to Sept. 21, 2013.

... Getting tougher each week
While the Revs have not allowed a goal at home this year, one big reason is because the team’s defense has been stingy in allowing shots on goal … through three home games, the Revs have allowed just three shots on target, including a total of one SOG combined in the last two games.

Central Powers
The central defense tandem of A.J. Soares and Andrew Farrell has proven extremely stingy this season in their short time together … in the 319 minutes the duo has played centrally together this year, the Revolution has a goals against average of 0.56 – allowing just two goals in that span, including two shutouts – and has gone 2-1-1 … while Soares has played exclusively at center back in each of his four professional seasons, Farrell has transitioned centrally as needed this year, his second pro season … Farrell first appeared at CB on March 15 at Philadelphia, and has also played the team’s last 229 minutes (spanning three games) at center back in place of the injured Jose Goncalves.

Road warriors packing up again
The Revolution will play its sixth road match of the season this weekend when the team heads to Toronto … the Revs have already played a league-high five road matches – tied with New York and Philadelphia – posting a 1-3-1 mark in those games … while New England has played five road matches, D.C. and San Jose have each only played a league-low two.

Long stretches between home cooking
New England has played just three matches at Gillette Stadium this season, the second-lowest total in MLS this year … of their eight matches, five have been away from home, while three have been in Foxborough … only two teams have played fewer home matches: LA and Toronto … both teams have played two home games, but LA has only played five matches overall, while Toronto has only played six matches this season … New England has already played eight matches overall.

Not just one “Mr. Clutch”
In three wins this season, the Revs have had three different game-winning goal scorers, the second-most in MLS … Seattle leads MLS with four different goal scorers in five wins … Lee Nguyen scored the lone goal at San Jose on March 29, Kevin Alston scored the game-winner against Houston on April 12 and Teal Bunbury scored the determining goal against Kansas City on April 26.

Bunbury makes first goal count
Teal Bunbury scored his first goal as a member of the Revs against Sporting Kansas City – his former club – last Saturday in a 2-0 win … Bunbury got on the end of a Diego Fagundez cross in the 92nd minute to break a 0-0 score and snap the Revs’ 591-minute, regular-season scoreless streak against Kansas City … the goal was Bunbury’s first since 2012 when he played for SKC, which came against D.C. United on August 11, 2012.

Comfortable at the spot
Lee Nguyen converted a penalty kick for the second week in a row last Saturday against Sporting Kansas City … Nguyen stepped up to the spot and beat SKC’s Eric Kronberg to extend the Revs’ lead to 2-0 in stoppage time … the midfielder also converted from the spot at Chicago on April 19, beating Sean Johnson in the first half and pulling the Revs level at 1-1 … Nguyen has two PKs this season, and five on his career, tying him for fourth in Revs club history.

Fagundez cracks score sheet
Diego Fagundez didn’t score a goal last Saturday, but the 19-year-old was a key driver on both Rev goals … on Teal Bunbury’s game-winning goal, Fagundez whipped in a cross from the right wing in the 92nd minute that Bunbury re-directed for the game-winning goal … minutes later, Fagundez drew a penalty kick after his header towards goal was handled by SKC defender Oriol Rosell … Fagundez, who scored 13 goals in 2013, leads the Revs in shots (21) and shots on goal (eight) this season.

Shuttleworth earns third shutout…
Bobby Shuttleworth earned his third shutout of the season against Kansas City last Saturday, backing the team to a 2-0 win … Shuttleworth is tied for the league lead with three shutouts, matched by Houston’s Tally Hall, Kansas City’s Eric Kronberg, and Real Salt Lake’s Nick Rimando … in the last three games, Shuttleworth has posted a 0.33 goals against average with two shutouts and a 2-0-1 record..

… and emerging as club’s number one
Bobby Shuttleworth is once again ranked as one of the league’s top keepers, using a consistent run the last seven games to rebound from the team’s 4-0 road loss at Houston to open the season … Shuttleworth has a goals against average of 1.13 this season, and is ranked seventh in goals against average (fifth among goalkeepers who have played at least six games) and tied for first in shutouts …  in the last seven games, Shuttleworth has posted a 0.71 goals against average, three shutouts and gone 3-2-1.

Revs waiting for days gone “Bye”
With their designated bye weekend coming in Week 22 of the schedule (Aug. 9-13), the Revolution will be the last team in MLS who will enjoy a bye weekend outside of the league’s World Cup break … with the exception of Portland – who does not have an in-season bye week in their schedule besides the World Cup break – every other team in MLS will have enjoyed at least one bye weekend before the Revs sit out Week 22 of the schedule … this year’s schedule is a stark change from the 2013 slate that saw the Revs have two bye weeks in the first six weeks of the schedule: Week 1 and Week 6.

Portugal and Mexico set to meet at Gillette
Before the Mexican and Portuguese national teams make their way to Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, they’ll face off in an international friendly at Gillette Stadium … on June 6, Cristiano Ronaldo will lead Portugal against Javier Hernandez and Mexico in a final tune up before the World Cup … kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m., and tickets are on sale and start at $40.
