FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Kelyn Rowe scored two long-range goals to help the New England Revolution claim a 5-1 win over the visiting Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium on Sunday night.

Diego Fagundez and Juan Agudelo also added goals – and Agudelo forced a Union own goal – to propel the Revolution to the win as the team recorded its 10th win of the season.

New England is now 10-9-6 (36 pts.), while the loss dropped Philadelphia to 10-8-8 (38 points). The Revs’ win helped tighten the Eastern Conference standings, which – following the weekend’s action – sees the top six teams in the conference separated by just five points, with places two through six separated by three points.

The Revolution will enter next weekend’s schedule in fifth place – the final playoff spot – in the East, atop Houston (which also has 36 points) by virtue of goal differential.

The victory gave New England double-digit wins for the first time since 2009, when the Revs went 11-10-9 in the 30-game season. That was the last season in which the Revolution qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Rowe put the Revs on the board in the 26th minute, curling a 24-yard shot past Union keeper Zac MacMath. He collected a leading pass from Chad Barrett on the run and ripped a shot low to the side netting of the far post.

The Revs took the 1-0 lead into the half, but Philly equalized early in the second half when Danny Cruz beat Matt Reis and fired back across goal in the 59th minute.

In the 53rd minute, Sebastien Le Toux appeared to have scored Philadelphia’s go-ahead goal, but the offside flag went up on the Frenchman and the goal was waved off. Two-minutes later, Philadelphia again had a shout for the 2-1 score line when Conor Casey pounced on a loose ball under Reis and poked it in the goal, but referee Allan Chapman waved no-goal as he adjudged Reis had control of the ball.

Despite Philly’s challenges to it, the 1-1 score line was short-lived as the Revolution scored four goals in a 15-minute span, beginning with an Amobi Okugo own goal in the 58th minute. Originally credited to Agudelo, Okugo deflected his far-post shot inside the near post and staked the Revs to a 2-1 advantage.

Rowe added his second – this time from 30 yards – in the 65th minute, and then Fagundez struck in the 71st minute after converting a breakaway set up by Scott Caldwell. Agudelo capped the scoring in the 73rd minute by beating MacMath on his near post from the edge of the six-yard box.

Dimitry Imbongo recorded two assists on the night – on Rowe’s second goal and Agudelo’s goal. Barrett, Caldwell and Fagundez also recorded single assists. Fagundez was also originally credited with an assist on the game’s second goal before it was changed to an own goal.

At the end of the game, Okugo was shown his second yellow card of the evening and ejected in the first minute of stoppage time.

Reis recorded his third wins in four outings (3-0-1) this season, but saw his personal shutout streak – that dated back to Sept. 15, 2012 – snapped at 347 minutes with Cruz’s goal. He made two saves in the win.

The Revolution returns to action later this week when it travels to Toronto FC for a match on Friday, Aug. 30, at BMO Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on TV by Comcast SportsNet and on the radio by 98.5 The Sports Hub.
