Jerry Bengtson called up to Honduras for World Cup Qualifiers

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution forward Jerry Bengtson has been called up to represent Honduras during the country’s upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Costa Rica and Jamaica. Bengtson will depart the Revolution to join up with Honduras on Monday, June 3, following the Revs’ match against Los Angeles the afternoon before. He is expected to re-join the Revs at training on Thursday, June 20. 


Honduras, which is currently ranked 50th in the world in the most recent FIFA rankings, will face 48th-ranked Costa Rica on Friday, June 7th, in San Jose, Costa Rica. On Tuesday, June 11, Honduras hosts 53rd ranked Jamaica in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.


Bengtson, who is one of the CONCACAF (North and Central America) region’s most potent scorers, has 34 appearances for Honduras and has scored 16 international goals. In his last international appearance on March 26, Bengtson and Honduras fell 2-0 to Panama. Bengtson’s last international goal came against Mexico in a 2-2 tie on March 22.
