FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Diego Fagundez and Lloyd Sam traded goals one minute apart early in the second half as the New England Revolution and New York Red Bulls played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.

Fagundez gave New England (2-4-4, 10 pts.) the lead in the 54th minute when he notched his team-leading second goal of the season, but Sam hit back for New York (6-4-3, 21 pts.) just one minute later.

The draw extended the Revolution’s home unbeaten run against the Red Bulls to 17 games (11-0-6), while it also snapped New York’s four-game winning streak. New York hasn’t won in Foxborough since June 29, 2002.

Playing for a second time in four days, there were two changes to the Revolution side which faced Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night. Kalifa Cisse returned to the starting lineup in a holding midfield role, while Dimitry Imbongo earned his first start of the season as the lone forward.

Imbongo had the best chance of the first half in the 38th minute when he raced at the Red Bulls backline before drilling a low blast which goalkeeper Luis Robles saved with a dive to his left.

After the sides combined for just one shot on target through 45 minutes, both found the back of the net in quick succession after the halftime break.

Fagundez put the Revolution in front in the 54th minute when he finished off his own rebound. Chris Tierney’s corner kick was turned on target by Fagundez only to be cleared off the line, but the teenager was quickest to react and bundled home at the second attempt.

New England’s lead lasted just one minute, however, as Sam immediately pulled the visitors level. Andre Akpan’s pass slipped Sam into the right side of the box, where he placed a low shot inside the far post.

Robles came up with a massive save in the 80th minute to deny Fagundez his second goal. Tierney’s low cross from the left wing was met well by the Revs youth product, but Robles got down to his right to make a strong stop.

Fagundez had one last chance to grab a game winner deep into stoppage time when Ryan Guy found him in the center of the box, but Fagundez’s first-time effort flew over the bar and the teams remained deadlocked.

After back-to-back home games, the Revs will return to the road next weekend when they’ll visit the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium.
