Revolution Youth Update: Albertson SC

Youth team vs. Seacoast

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Last weekend, all three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams returned home, taking on Albertson SC at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, April 27. Overall, the teams went a combined 0-1-2 as the Under-18s suffered a 2-1 loss to Albertson SC, while the Under-16s and Under-14s both battled back from two-goal deficits to earn 2-2 draws.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s suffered a 2-1 loss to Albertson SC on Saturday. Albertson’s Miguel Polley scored to give the visitors the lead in the 21st minute. Searching for the equalizer, New England created several chances leading up to the break. In the 29th minute, Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) came close, beating a pair of defenders before the Albertson goalkeeper came out to disrupt the attack and clear the ball as far as his back line. Leandro Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.) then forced him into making a diving save in the 36th minute. Albertson doubled its advantage in the second half with a goal from Ryan Egan in the 52nd minute. In the 59th minute, Alves – assisted by Quenton Swift (Enfield, Conn.) – put the Revs on the scoreboard, but the home side was ultimately unable to find the equalizer. Now 11-4-2 (35 pts.), the U18s are ranked second in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 2.06 points per game.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s came back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Albertson SC on Saturday. Albertson’s Conrad Nowowiejski and William Botty scored in the 20th and 22nd minutes, respectively, giving the visitors the lead. Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) then sprung Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.), who found himself one-on-one with Albertson goalkeeper Oliver Roberts, in the 24th minute. As Roberts came out to defend, Apajee sent a low shot past him and into the back of the net. Amadu Kunateh (Salem, Mass.) then followed suit in the 25th minute, scoring at a tight angle from near the end line, assisted by Luke Albertini (North Attleborough, Mass.). After a scoreless second half, the teams remained knotted at 2-2 at the final whistle. With their 9-3-5 (32 pts.) record, the U16s are currently third in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.88 points per game.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s also battled back for a 2-2 draw against Albertson SC on Saturday. The teams played a scoreless first half, breaking the deadlock for the first time in the 50th minute. Albertson scored first in the 50th, and again in the 60th minute to mount a two-goal lead. Freddy Stokes (West Hampton, Mass.) then launched the late-game comeback in the 74th minute with a goal, assisted by Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.). In the final minute of the game, Nick Woodruff (Attleboro, Mass.) then scored to equalize as Nick Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) was credited with the assist. The U14s now hold a 9-3-1 (28 pts.) record with 2.15 points per game in U.S. Club Soccer’s 20-team Northeast Pre-Academy League.

All three youth teams are on the road next weekend, when they meet Oakwood SC in Portland, Conn., on Saturday, May 4.
