Academy alumni sign with Iceland’s Tindastoll FC

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Former New England Revolution Under-18 players Ruben Resendes (Fall River, Mass.) and Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) have signed professional contracts with Icelandic club Tindastoll FC.

Resendes and Tsonis were members of Revolution Under-18 team during its inaugural 2008-09 season. At the conclusion of the season, both players graduated and continued on to play collegiate soccer at Southern New Hampshire University.

Still closely tied to the Revolution youth development program, Resendes is currently a coach with the Revolution Academy’s Player Development Programs. Both he and Tsonis are expected to train with the youth squads until their departure in April.

“We are really pleased for Ruben and Chris, both very talented members of our inaugural Academy team back in 2008,” said Director of Youth Development Bryan Scales. “They have had great college careers and have been outstanding representatives of the New England Revolution Academy throughout. We look forward to following their first professional season in Europe.”

Resendes, 21, joins Tindastoll FC after a four-year stint as a starting midfielder for the Penmen. The Fall River native started every game during the 2012 season en route to earning NSCAA All-America, NSCAA and Daktronics All-Region, and Daktronics Honorable Mention All-America honors. Resendes leaves Southern New Hampshire at the program’s all-time leader in games played with 87.

Tsonis, 21, wrapped up his four-year collegiate career tied for ninth in goals in the Penmen’s history with 40. As co-captain, he led Southern New Hampshire and the Northeast-10 in scoring for the second consecutive season with 16 goals and four assists during the 2012 season. Tsonis earned Daktronics East Region Co-Player of the Year and Second Team All-American honors, and was both an NSCAA All-Region and NE-10 First Team selection for the second time in his career.
