Lee Nguyen undergoes shoulder surgery

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen (pronounced WIN) underwent surgery on his right shoulder earlier today. He will miss the remainder of the 2012 season and is expected to return to full participation in approximately four months.


Head team physician Dr. Scott Martin performed a Latarjet procedure on Nguyen at the Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center in Foxborough. Nguyen, 25, underwent the surgery to correct chronic instability in his shoulder .


Nguyen was the only player on the Revs to appear in all 30 games played so far this season. He scored five goals and added two assists in 27 starts. Nguyen joined the Revolution on March 2, 2012, through the Waiver Draft after Vancouver waived him the day before. He was the MLS player of the week for Week 10 following a two-goal, one assist performance in a 4-1 Revs win against his former team.


The Revolution returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29, when the team travels to face the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET, and the match will be televised regionally on Comcast SportsNet. 98.5 The Sports Hub will also carry the game on the radio.
