FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution forward Jerry Bengtson has been called up to represent Honduras in the team’s upcoming home-and-home FIFA World Cup Qualifier matches against Cuba on Friday, Sept. 7 in Havana, and Tuesday, Sept. 11 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Bengtson will depart the Revolution to join Honduras following the Revs’ Sept. 1 match against the Philadelphia Union, and will miss the team’s Sept. 5 match against the Columbus Crew while on international duty.

Bengtson has earned 22 caps with Honduras, scoring eight goals, since he entered the national team picture in 2010. His last appearance with the national team came on Wednesday, Aug. 15, when he played in an exhibition against Argentine power Boca Juniors in Miami, scoring one goal.

Bengtson also recently represented Honduras at the 2012 Olympic Games in London as one of the Under-23 team’s three over-age players. He started all four of Honduras’ games, scored three goals and helped the team advance through the group stage to the quarterfinals for the first time in history.
