Youth Teams - Declan McCabe

FRISCO, Texas – The New England Revolution Under-16 team played its second group game of the 2011-12 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs Wednesday night, suffering a 3-0 loss to Pateadores (Calif.).

Pateadores struck early, tearing down the right wing in the second minute of play. The ball was served in and Kevin Delatorre was there to head it home, putting the Southern Calif. Squad ahead.

New England generated a number of chances throughout the remainder of the half, but was unable to capitalize. In the 33rd minute, Steven Duncan (Barrington, R.I.) played a long ball out of the back. Matthew Nyeayea (Worcester, Mass.) ran onto it on the right wing, sending a cross into the box, where Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) emerged from a scramble, his shot curling wide right.

Nahum Paz then doubled Pateadores’ lead in first-half stoppage time, accumulated during a scheduled water break. The Revs went into halftime facing a two-goal deficit.

In the 43rd minute, Delatorre scored his second goal of the game to put Pateadores up, 3-0.

The Revs made a series of three quick subs, and the fresh legs signaled a new offensive push. In one of the best opportunities of the final thirty minutes, Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) took a corner kick from the left. The ball was initially cleared, but New England regained possession and switched the field to Duncan on the right. The defender then sent a ball in over the top and Gissie latched on, but fired his shot wide.

Ultimately unable to pull one back, the Revs were shut out, 3-0. Now 0-1-1 in the Playoffs, the U16s remain mathematically eligible to clinch a spot in Finals Week.

On Thursday, the Under-18s are set to play their third and final game of the Development Academy Playoffs. Kickoff against Charlotte Soccer Academy is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET.
