Shalrie Joseph vs. Toronto FC

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – After re-signing key veterans Shalrie Joseph and Matt Reis last week, the New England Revolution continued to make moves to bolster the team’s roster by selecting left-sided player Danleigh Borman from Toronto FC in Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Process, held today.


The Revs’ youth teams are also in action at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase.


TEAM NOTES

Joseph Re-signs as Designated Player
This weekend, Revolution captain Shalrie Joseph re-signed with Major League Soccer to remain in New England … the seven-time MLS All-Star will occupy one of the team’s Designated Player roster spots … Joseph, 33, will enter his 10th season with the Revolution after officially joining the club prior to the 2003 season … with nine years of service with the Revs, he is tied with current head coach Jay Heaps and goalkeeper Matt Reis for longest tenure as a Revolution player in club history, and currently shares the club record for appearances (243) with Heaps.


Reis Inks Deal As Well
Matt Reis re-signed with MLS on Thurs., Dec. 1 and will remain with the Revolution … the four-time MLS All-Star has played more games in goal (215) – and started more games in goal (214) – than any other Revolution goalkeeper in club history … Reis holds almost every one of the Revs’ career goalkeeping records, including goals against average (1.33), wins (80), saves (868), shutouts (55) and saves percentage (.725) … Reis has been the Revs’ starting goalkeeper since midway through the 2004 season.


Borman selected in Stage 1 of Re-Entry Process
The Revolution selected left-sided player Danleigh Borman from Toronto FC this afternoon with the second overall pick in Stage 1 of the 2011 Re-Entry Process … Borman, a 25-year-old South Africa native, is out of contract and MLS has extended a Bona Fide contract offer for him to play for the Revolution next season, which he can either accept or decline … Borman was one of three players selected in Stage 1 … Borman began his career in New York in 2008, before being traded to Toronto earlier this year as part of the deal that sent Dwayne De Rosario to the Red Bulls.


Three Revs remain eligible for Stage 2
All three Revs players eligible for the Re-Entry Process remain eligible for next Monday’s Stage 2 draft … Ryan Cochrane, Kheli Dube and Pat Phelan had their options declined by the Revolution … coupled with their league tenure and age, they are now eligible for the Re-Entry Process to teams across the league next Monday after not being selected in Stage 1 today.


2012 MLS Season kicks off March 10
MLS’ 17th season will kick off on Saturday, March 10, 2012, with six matches. First Kick presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods will continue with two games on Sunday, March 11, and one on Monday, March 12 … clubs that will host games on the season’s opening weekend include: Colorado, D.C., LA, San Jose, Seattle and Vancouver on March 10; Chivas USA and Dallas on March 11; and Portland on March 12 … Week 2 will see Kansas City, Montreal, Salt Lake and Philadelphia debut at home … New England, Chicago, Columbus, Toronto and New York will open their home slates in Week 3 … Houston will open its new stadium, and play its first home match, in Week 10, on Saturday, May 12.


Revs to open home schedule March 24
The Revs will play their first home game of the 2012 season on Saturday, March 24, at Gillette Stadium in Week 3 of the schedule … MLS will release the Revs’ opponent and kick-off time for the home opener when the full schedule is released later this winter … the game on March 24 is the first of the Revs’ 17 regular-season MLS games at Gillette Stadium next season, and it will also serve as the home debut of new head coach Jay Heaps … the game will mark the team’s earliest-ever home opener, supplanting the 2011 home opener on March 26.


Alston joins GA tour of Netherlands
Right back Kevin Alston was one of 18 players named to MLS’ Generation adidas team that will train in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, until Thursday, Dec. 15. … the squad, under the direction of Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes, departed the U.S. today and will play three matches while in the Netherlands: at Ajax Reserves, at FC Volendam and at Almere City FC … this is Alston’s second postseason tour with the Generation adidas team, having also toured South Africa with the select team following his rookie season in 2009.


2012-13 Revolution jersey now on sale
The Revolution unveiled its brand-new 2012-13 home jersey on Saturday, Dec. 3 in a special unveiling event at the Gillette Stadium ProShop … replica home and away jerseys are now available in the Gillette Stadium ProShop, as well as online at proshop.patriots.com/revolution/ … through the end of the day today, fans can have their newly-purchased jerseys customized for free, usually a $20 fee.


Holiday Multi-Game Packs now available
Multiple-game ticket packages are now on sale, offering fans the chance to purchase discounted tickets and select seats before individual game tickets go on sale to the public … beginning at only $80, holiday packages – including four and six game plans – also include pre-sale opportunities for Gillette Stadium concerts and special events as well as an additional holiday Revs gift, subject to availability … fans ordering a six-game mini-plan pay for five games and receive the sixth game free.


YOUTH DEVELOPMENT NEWS

Youth Teams currently 1-3-0 at Winter Showcase, wrap-up Tuesday
Through the team’s first two play days of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase, the Revs’ youth teams have earned a 1-3-0 overall record … the U18s are 1-1-0 with a 1-0 win over Charlotte Soccer Academy on Saturday, but fell, 3-0, to the Chicago Fire on Sunday … the U16s suffered a 2-0 loss to CSA on Saturday, and followed suit on Sunday with an identical 3-0 loss to Chicago … the teams conclude their three-game schedules on Tuesday morning with matches against North Meck SC of North Carolina … on the season, the U18s are now 3-1-0, while the U16s are 2-2-0.


Herivaux added to Select Team
Zachary Herivaux (Brookline, Mass.) was unavailable to play with the Revs’ U16s against Charlotte Soccer Academy after being named to one of the Develop Academy Select Teams … the U.S. Soccer scouting network, Technical Advisors and Youth National Team coaches selected 78 players based on their performances at Academy games, Training Centers and Youth National Team camps … as a 1995 birth year, Herivaux was assigned to one of two Select Teams that faced off on Saturday, Dec. 3.


Kabala helps U.S. U17s win Nike International Friendlies
Revs U16 midfielder Guy Kabala (Manchester, N.H.) was a member of the U.S. Under-17 squad that won the Nike International Friendlies this past weekend in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. … Kabala made two starts in the tournament: against France on Nov. 30, and against Brazil on Dec. 4 … Kabala is currently a member of the U.S. Under-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla.


UPCOMING DRAFT INFORMATION

2011 Re-Entry Draft, Stage 2
Monday, Dec. 12 - via Conference Call
The second stage of the Re-Entry Draft will be held next Monday … players who were available but undrafted in Stage 1 are available to teams through the same draft order as Stage 1 … this week, undrafted players are allowed to opt out of the draft and re-sign with their current clubs, or are able to re-negotiate their salaries with MLS to then be available to teams at the new salary rates … like Stage 1, the Revs will have the second selection in each round of Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Draft.


2012 MLS SuperDraft
Thursday, Jan. 12 – live in Kansas City, Mo.
MLS will conduct its annual college draft at 12 p.m. ET, on Thursday, Jan. 12, in Kansas City, Mo. … players who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility, as well as Generation adidas players, and potentially a select number of young international players, will be available to the 18 teams … this year, the SuperDraft was shortened from three rounds to two rounds … barring any trades, the Revs are expected to hold the third overall pick in both rounds of the SuperDraft … a full listing of the teams’ draft positions – including any positions swapped in trades - will be released closer to the draft.


2012 MLS Supplemental Draft
Tuesday, Jan. 17 – via Conference Call

MLS will conduct the annual Supplemental Draft on Monday, Jan. 17 … eligible players who were not selected in the MLS SuperDraft are available to teams …this year, the Supplemental Draft was expanded from three rounds to four rounds … barring any trades, the Revs are expected to hold the third overall pick in each of the four rounds of the Supplemental Draft … a full listing of the teams’ draft positions – including any positions included in trades - will be released closer to the draft.
