A.J. Soares undergoes ankle surgery

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution rookie defender A.J. Soares underwent successful surgery on his left ankle today, which require six to eight weeks of rehabilitation. As a result, he will miss the Revs’ final three games of the 2011 season.

Soares, 22, underwent a debridement of the ankle, which was performed by Dr. George Theodore at Massachusetts General Hospital earlier today.

Soares made 28 appearances this season, all starts, and scored one goal. The Revs drafted Soares with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of California.

The Revolution returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when the team hosted the San Jose Earthquakes at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Comcast SportsNet will televise the game live, while 98.5 The Sports Hub will carry the game on the radio.
