Youth players called into U-17 Residency Program

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution Under-16s Guyllain “Guy” Kabala (Manchester, N.H.) and Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) are among the 32 players called into U.S. Soccer’s Under-17 Residency Program for its fall semester in Bradenton, Fla. The Revolution is one of only seven Development Academy clubs with multiple representatives on the roster.

While in the program, Kabala and McCabe will live on campus at the IMG Academy and train in the morning under the guidance of U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach Wilmer Cabrera and assistant coaches Paul Caffrey, Gerson Echeverry, Paul Grafer and Eric Imler. In the afternoon, the players will attend classes at St. Stephens Episcopal School. The players will have access to IMG’s state-of-the-art strength-training facilities, as well as some of the nation’s best sports psychologists that work at the Academy.

“We’re very proud of both Guy and Declan,” said Revolution Director of Youth Development Bryan Scales. “With their selection to the residency program, they have the unique opportunity to train and develop with the top U17 players in the country on a daily basis. This is a terrific opportunity for them both and I know they will represent the New England Revolution very well down in Bradenton.”

Kabala is in his first year with the Revolution Under-16 team. The Manchester resident participated in two Under-15 Boys National Team training camps in 2011, the first in March and a second in July.

McCabe is entering his second year with the Revolution Under-16s, having made 23 appearances – including nine starts – and registered two assists en route to qualifying for the Development Academy Playoffs during the 2010-11 season. Previously, McCabe attended U.S. Soccer Under-14 National Team camp in 2009 and Under-15 National Team camps in 2010 and 2011, held in Carson, Calif. The midfielder also participated in U.S. Club Soccer’s ID2 program in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and was selected for a trip to Germany and the Netherlands in 2010.
