Diego Fagundez vs. Union reserves

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Following the completion of the 2010-11 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, which included a trip to the Playoffs for the Under-16s and the Academy Showcase for the Under-18s, the New England Revolution youth development program is preparing for the 2011 Generation adidas U17 Cup.


The Revolution’s youth development program has announced its 22-player travel squad for the Generation adidas U17 Cup, which will be held at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, from July 25-31. New England will play a total of five games against other MLS youth teams during the event – three group games, followed by two games determined by previous results.

YOUTH NOTES

U16 Playoffs Summary
The U16s went 1-2-0 during the Playoffs, held at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, from June 24-28 … the Revs earned a 2-1 victory over the North Carolina Fusion on June 25, before suffering two losses – 2-1 against Texas Rush AJ Auxerre on June 26 and 4-3 against Pateadores on June 28.


U18 Showcase Summary
The U18s finished the Academy Showcase – also held at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, from June 24-28 – with a 1-1-1 record … the Revs came from behind to earn a 3-2 victory over the Clearwater Chargers on June 24, before suffering a 3-2 loss against Shattuck-Saint Mary’s on June 25 and playing


Internationals to a 2-2 draw on June 27.


U16 2010-11 Season Stats Leaders
Diego Fagundez ended the 2010-11 season with a team-leading 19 goals for the U16s – and scored an additional two goals for the U18s … Fagundez also lead the team in assists, registering 10 assists for the U16s – with an additional five assists earned with the U18s … defender Willis Griffith finished the season as the U16s’ leader in minutes played with 2039, followed closely by fellow defender Christian Sady – who played 2031 minutes with the U16s and 90 minutes with the U18s for a total of 2121 minutes played … goalkeeper David Hepp secured four shutouts during the 2010-11 season and accumulated a 1.31 goals against average in 19 appearances – all starts.


U18 2010-11 Season Stats Leaders
Forward Fabio Machado, Jr. (Leominster, Mass) finished the 2010-11 season as the U18s’ goal-scoring leader with 15 goals and 6 assists … fellow forward Cole DeNormandie (Lincoln, Mass.) earned a team-leading 7 assists, in addition to scoring 14 goals during the season … defender Sean MacDonald (Candia, N.H.) ended the season as the U18s’ leader in minutes played with 2379 … goalkeeper Jose Silva (Northboro, Mass.) registered two shutouts during the 2010-11 season and accumulated a 1.62 goals against average in 18 appearances – all starts.


Fagundez Earns U.S. Soccer Honors
Following the completion of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s 2010-11 season, Diego Fagundez was named to the U15/16 Development Academy Starting XI for the second consecutive year, honoring him as one of the top 11 players across the country in the Development Academy … during the youth season, Fagundez scored 21 goals and added 15 assists in 25 games – 19 goals and 10 assists in 18 games with the U16s; two goal and five assists with the U18s.


Fagundez Among Top Goal-Scorers In Academy
With his 19 regular-season goals, Diego Fagundez finished the U.S. Soccer Development Academy regular season ranked seventh in goals scored in the Under-15/16 age group … the 16-year old was also ranked 11th overall in the league, which is composed of 78 teams across the country.


McCabe Invited To U15 USBNT Training Camp
U16 Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) has been invited to the Under-15 Boys' National Team training camp, beginning Saturday, July 23 … camp will take place from Saturday, July 23 – Saturday, July 30 in Carson, Calif. … McCabe previously participated in the U.S. Soccer Under-14 and Under-15 National Team camps in 2009 and 2010, also held in Carson.


2011-12 Youth Roster Announcement
The New England Revolution youth development program is expected to announce its full under-16 and under-18 rosters for the 2011-12 season within the next couple of weeks … rosters will feature returning players from the 2010-11 season, as well as new players from multiple tryouts held during the summer … an open tryout was held on Wednesday, July 6, when 150 players from all over New England converged on the Dana Farber Field House in hopes of wearing the Revolution uniform.


Diego Gets To Dress
Diego Fagundez made his first league road trip this week ... he was among the 18 players dressed on Wednesday in D.C., and then traveled on to Colorado with the rest of the squad ... Wednesday night marked the first time Fagundez dressed for an MLS contest ... he has previously dressed – and played – in Reserve League matches and U.S. Open Cup Play-In Games … the 16-year old is expected to rejoin his youth teammates when they travel to Frisco, Texas, for the Generation adidas U17 Cup, held from June 25-31.


MLS RESERVE DIVISION NOTES

Revs’ Reserves Unbeaten In Last Four
The Revs reserves extended their unbeaten streak to four games and their winning streak to three games with a 3-1 win against the Philadelphia Union reserves on Monday, July 18, at Gillette Stadium ... Diego Fagundez recorded one goal and one assist, while Alan Koger and Andrew Sousa also scored goals ... Revs youth products Dominik Machado and Peguy Ngatcha also picked up assists in the game.


Youth players get the call against Philly in reserve match
Four youth players were called up to the lineup for the Revs’ reserve match against Philadelphia on July 18, with three seeing time in the 3-1 win … Dominik Machado started and played 90 minutes while picking up one assist, and Peguy Ngatcha also registered an assist after entering the game in the second half … Cole DeNormandie was also a halftime substitute … additionally, Revs Home Grown player and Under-16 star Diego Fagundez picked up one goal and one assist in 90 minutes of action.
