Fagundez receives end-of-year honors

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Following the completion of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s 2010-11 season, New England Revolution Under-16 Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.) was named to the U15/16 Development Academy Starting XI for the second consecutive year, honoring him as one of the top 11 players across the country in the Development Academy. During the youth season, Fagundez scored 21 goals and added 15 assists in 25 games – 19 goals and 10 assists in 18 games with the U16s; two goal and five assists with the U18s.


“We are very pleased that Diego has been recognized for his overall performance again this season,” said Revolution Director of Youth Development Bryan Scales. “Like all of our players, he continues to make progress on a number of levels, and we are very proud of his achievements.”


Signed as the Revolution‘s first-ever Homegrown Player last November, Fagundez is currently training full-time with the first team during for the summer. The youth product is expected to rejoin the U16s later this month, when the team travels to Frisco, Texas, for the Generation adidas U17 Cup, held from June 25-31.


Entering its fourth season, the Revolution’s youth program is the only fully-funded youth soccer program in New England, and competes in the prestigious U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Qualified and talented players are accepted into the program without regard to their financial situation. All players’ needs and expenses related to soccer activities – training, facilities, equipment, uniforms, travel associated with competitions – are provided by the Revolution at no cost to the players or their families. In 2011, the Under-16 team finished second in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference and advanced to the playoffs.
