Reserves claim 3-1 win over Philly

Diego Fagundez vs. Union reserves

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Three first-year players tallied to lift the New England Revolution reserves to a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union reserves on Monday morning at Gillette Stadium.

The Revs struck first when under-16 midfielder Dominik Machado found Alan Koger, who scored in the 27th minute and sent the home side into halftime with the lead.

A foul in the box earned the Union a penalty kick on the other side of the break, and Roger Torres converted in the 48th minute to level the score.

Homegrown player Diego Fagundez earned an assist on Andrew Sousa’s 60th-minute goal, before tallying one of his own in the 85th minute. Under-16 forward Peguy Ngatcha was credited with the helper.

The two teams used a combined six players from their youth development programs. New England featured Dominik Machado as a starter in his fourth appearance with the reserves, while Cole DeNormandie and Peguy Ngatcha entered the game as second-half substitutes. Philadelphia’s Darius Madison earned the start in the midfield, and Jimmy McLoughlin and Keegan Rosenberry saw time in the second half.

Both teams will face the New York Red Bulls in their next reserve division matches. New England (3-2-1, 10 pts.) will play the Red Bulls at home on Sunday, Aug. 21, after Philadelphia (1-3-1, 4 pts.) visits them on Monday, Aug. 15.
