Youth Playoffs: Day one notes

It’s just after 9:30 p.m. here in Frisco, Texas, and the youth teams are wrapping up their first day on the road for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs and Showcase. I will be here all week, so check back frequently for everything from game recaps to behind-the-scenes photos.

Today was an early day for most, as a morning flight meant a 7 a.m. arrival at Logan airport. The coaching staff and players would be quick to point out, however, that I arrived well after that because of traffic. In my defense, I drove alone and could not make use of the HOV lane. (I know, I know.)

The trip went smoothly overall, and we arrived at our hotel early in the afternoon. After a quick lunch, the team headed down to the pool, before taking some time to relax before dinner.

After a pleasant team meal at a local restaurant, everyone took a walk over to check things out at Pizza Hut Park. The players got the lay of the land and hammed it up for a few photos, which you can see below.

Following meetings for both the U18s and U16s, the players have the rest of the night to themselves. The Under-18s play their first game of the showcase at 9 a.m. tomorrow, and the younger group will have a training session in preparation for their first playoff game on Saturday.
