Reserve Division: Revolution 2, Red Bulls 0

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. - Goals from Alan Koger and Zack Schilawski lifted the New England Revolution reserves to a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls reserves Saturday morning at Montclair State University.

The Revolution took the lead just one minute in when a long ball from defender Franco Coria found Koger, who pushed it past an on-rushing Alex Horwath at the top of the box and into the back of the net.

Kheli Dube almost doubled New England’s advantage 10 minutes later, firing past the left post from 15-yards-out. Soon after, New York had its first chance, as forward Corey Hertzog nodded a Teddy Schneider cross wide.

Horwath was called upon in the 27th minute to keep the game at 1-0, tipping a Schilawski blast over the bar. The goalkeeper made another save in the interval, diving to his left to catch a Koger header.

New York searched for an equalizer and Marcos Paullo nearly got an open strike on goal in the penalty box 10 minutes after the break if it wasn’t for a last minute block by a Revolution defender.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 66th minute. Andrew Sousa played a short corner to Ryan Kinne, whose ensuing inswinger dipped into the six-yard box. Schilawski beat his man to the ball and nodded it past substitute goalkeeper Chris Konopka. The Revolution forward had another chance off a scissor kick that Konopka acrobatically parried away.

Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth helped preserve the clean sheet for New England when he blocked a John Rooney 23-year free kick with less than 15 minutes left in the match. Konopka made another good stop later, getting a hand on Dube’s close-range header.
