Revs Reserves earn 2-2 draw at D.C.

Kenny Mansally vs. LA Galaxy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The New England Revolution reserves earned a 2-2 draw on the road at D.C. United this morning, in a match played on the RFK Stadium Auxiliary Fields. Revolution midfielder Kenny Mansally scored both of the team’s goals, converting a penalty kick and later adding a free kick goal, but D.C. rallied with a pair of late goals.

The Revolution took the lead in the 28th minute. D.C. academy product Conor Shonosky was whistled for a foul in the United box, as he was jumping to clear a cross and collided with Pat Phelan. Mansally converted the spot kick to give New England the 1-0 lead.

The Revs then doubled their lead in the 65th minute off Mansally’s 30-yard left-footed free kick. His blast into the upper corner of the goal beat D.C. goalkeeper Joe Willis.

Joseph Ngwenya pulled one back for United four minutes later. Substitute Tyler Rudy’s long ball beat the Revolution back line, and Ngwenya ran onto the ball and slotted past Bobby Shuttleworth, who came on for Tim Murray at the half.

D.C. academy product Collin Martin equalized in the 83rd minute, smashing a low shot past Shuttleworth to tie the game.

Unlike the previous two reserve contests, the Revolution did not travel any non-rostered Academy players for this match. Only 16-year-old Home Grown player Diego Fagundez made the trip, and came on as a halftime substitute.

The Revolution (0-2-1, 1 pts.) next travels to New York this upcoming weekend. They will face the Red Bulls’ reserves on Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m., at Montclair State University.
