Revs to travel to Kansas City for Open Cup Play-In

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will travel to face Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday, May 25, in the final round of the MLS Play-In bracket of the U.S. Open Cup. The exact time and site of the May 25 match is still to be finalized, and will be announced at a later date.

The Revs entered the three-round play-in bracket in the second round, defeating D.C. United, 3-2, on Tuesday evening. Kansas City defeated Houston, 1-0, on April 6, to earn its way to the final round of league qualifying play.

New England will travel to Kansas City because the team lost a coin toss on Monday, Feb. 28, at the MLS offices in New York City. The winner of the New England-Sporting Kansas City match will enter the formal U.S. Open Cup bracket in the 16-team third round.

The Revolution is the 2007 U.S. Open Cup champion, a title that was the club’s first-ever cup tournament title. New England defeated FC Dallas, 3-2, in Frisco, Texas, to win that match. The Revs have an 11-9-3 all-time record in U.S. Open Cup matches (1-1 in MLS Cup Play-In games).
