DL - Youth teams

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Under-18 and Under-16 teams each played two road matches this weekend, taking on Seacoast United in Epping, N.H., on Saturday, April 16, before traveling to Syracuse, N.Y., to meet Empire United on Sunday, April 17. The games marked the Revs’ first divisional matchups of the 2010-11 season, and the youth squads came out of the weekend with a combined record of 0-2-2.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s battled Seacoast United to a 2-2 draw on Saturday, coming back from a two-goal deficit to earn a point on the road. After a scoreless first half, Seacoast found the back of the net in the 53rd minute of play. A 55th minute goal extended United’s lead to 2-0. With his first-ever goal for the Revolution, Sean MacDonald (Manchester, N.H.) made it 2-1, getting a head on Cameron Bielski’s (Dover, Mass.) corner kick service in the 61st minute. Already credited with an assist, Bielski – assisted by Michael Rincon (Malden, Mass.) – scored the equalizer in the final minutes of the match. Bielski now has four goals and four assists on the season.

On Sunday, the U18s suffered a 2-0 loss to Empire United. The Revs went down a man in the 22nd minute, when Matthew Keys (Norfolk, Mass.) was shown a straight red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity. A re-organized backline, aided by goalkeeper Jose Silva (Northborough, Mass.), held United until just before the break, when the Revs conceded a goal in the 44th minute. New England pushed for the equalizer throughout the second half, with Fabio Machado, Jr. (Leominster, Mass.) hitting the post and crossbar on separate occasions. Empire United was able to capitalize on the man advantage again in stoppage time, making it 2-0 in the 93rd minute.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s played Seacoast United to a scoreless draw on Saturday. Despite seven shots on goal, the Revs were unable to find the back of the net against a defensive-minded home side. In New England’s best chance of the match, Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.) fired a shot past Seacoast’s goalkeeper, only to have it cleared off the goal line by a defender.

On Sunday, the U16s dropped a 3-2 decision to Empire United during a torrential rainstorm. United opened scoring three minutes before halftime, and extended the lead to 2-0 in the 46th minute. Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.) – assisted by Fagundez – put the Revs on the score sheet in the 56th minute, making it 2-1. Empire scored a third in the 65th minute, but Fagundez – assisted by Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.) – answered with his 13th goal of the season in the 73rd.

With the weekend’s results, the Revolution Under-18 team – now 6-9-3 – slid to fifth place in the Northeast Division. The Under-16s now hold a 6-6-6 record and are in fourth place in the division. Off this weekend, the Revs will next play FC Greater Boston in Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday, April 30.
