Youth Update

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution youth teams opened their 2010-11 season this past weekend with matches at FC Westchester in Purchase, N.Y., and at Albertson SC in Garden City, N.Y.


The Under-16s went 1-0-1 as Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.), who was recently signed to the New England Revolution first team, scored five goals in two games. Five different U16 players recorded an assist this past weekend.


The Under-18s split a pair of 1-0 games with Cole Denormandie (Lincoln, Mass.) netting the team’s lone goal on the weekend.


Following the season-opening matches, the youth teams will head to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s Winter Showcase in Phoenix, Ariz., Dec. 2-6. The Under-18s are 1-1-0, while the Under-16s are 1-0-1.

Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 – SUNY Purchase (Purchase, N.Y.)


Revolution U18s 1, Westchester U18s 0

Only able to travel 13 players because of the high school playoffs, the Under-18 squad still earned a 1-0 win over Westchester, a 2009-10 playoff squad, on Saturday. Cole Denormandie (Lincoln, Mass.) put the Revs ahead in the 54th minute, converting a pass from Fabio Machado, Jr., (Leominster, Mass.).

Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.) put the Revs ahead in the 14th minute off a corner kick, while Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.) scored the first of his four goals three minutes later as the U16s opened the season with a victory over a fellow 2009-10 playoff squad.

With several U16 players needed to play up at the U18 level for this game, the Revs and Albertson played a scoreless match until the 78th minute when Albertson’s Keith McKenna broke through for the eventual game-winner.

Diego Fagundez scored his fifth goal of the weekend, this time from Kevin Herrera (Lynn, Mass.), in the 27th minute to give the Revs a 1-0 lead, which they held until just before full time when the team surrendered an own goal three minutes from the death to level the score.
