NEW YORK (Monday, Nov. 16, 2010) – MLS Commissioner Don Garber today announced that club rosters will grow to 30 players in 2011, up from 24 in 2010. In addition, MLS will launch a new reserve division, providing essential developmental opportunities to players. 

The six additional roster spots are reserved for players 24 and under and they will not count against a team’s salary budget, which for 2011 will be $2.67 million per team. 

The new Reserve Division will feature three regions of six teams, with each team playing the other five in its group twice for a 10-game regular season. The top eight reserve teams will qualify for playoffs. MLS clubs first fielded reserve teams from 2005 through 2008, but did not do so the past two seasons. 

These and other competition amendments are pending approval by the MLS Board of Governors and full details will be available at a later date.
